Hi everyone,
Being that the other half wants a house, there is little chance that I'm going to convert a car to electric.
That said, I do want some form of electric vehicle.
I've been thinking one of those scooters that you stand up on (probably because I have limited imagination).
I would like some suggestions as to what I could look at.
It needs:
To be able to do more than 20kph.
Have a decent run-time to have fun at an AEVA display day.
Must have pneumatic tyres, so that it can run on grass.
I've thought about a go-kart also, but after talking to Geoff (gttool), I think it might be out of my budget (I think his running tally was over 6 grand?).
Speaking of budget, I don't have one set. It all depends on if it's an outright purchase, or if I buy a bit here and a bit there, then put things together.
Hope you can offer me some suggestions.

They have all sorts of scooters, motorised bikes, motorised skateboards, motorised roller blades, go karts etc etc etc. The only thing they didn't have was a motorised snow board. (i'm now going to go patent a belt driven snowboard)
If you need a donor whatever, or a whatsit for your doodad, these guys have it all. Well worth a phone call. For anyone in perth it's well worth a visit.
I don't have any association with them, i was just blown away by what they stock.

Just phoned them, they're out of everything due to the xmas sales.
They don't have a product brochure, website, or pamphlets.
(Although, they said they should have pamphlets in around two weeks. Anyone feel like popping round there in two weeks, then mailing me the pamphlets?).

If I do another EV it will be an electric mountain push bike with 2 hub motors (brushless DC - 2 wheel drive) & lithium batteries.
The motors will be as powerful as practical without destroying the frame.

How about a slow build? Say over 2 years and go all the way and do a lotus 7 EV (AKA Locost)? It's what i am doing, slowly.
Or a lawn mower, i had a dead battery in mine and when i pulled it all apart found they had silver welded all the terminals... annoying. Changed it out and back to 24V output now so hopefully 100% operational.

Over two years would still be $20,000/year (or so), for a half-decent conversion.
That simply isn't the kind of money that I can spare when paying off a homeloan.
The lawnmower sounds like a cool idea, unfortunately we're getting a townhouse, so we won't have a lawn.

Having a long time is good for ebay - you can wait for bargains instead of paying retail.
Make sure you get a loan with redraw, that way when you're $50k ahead on the home loan you can withdraw $40k for your Escort panel van drag machine...

Hoverboards? Too complicated, too far out and too expensive. What the world really needs is the Scarpar. Said device is an off-road powerboard that just moved on from the concept stage to engineering. Its creators have thrown together an absolutely sick video (after the break) which showcases all the possibilities, and now all that's left is for those very folks to procure a good bit of venture funding to get things moving. Take it from us, VCers -- hit these guys up, now.
