Please -list- any "transport-islands" near you

Post by IVI »

So, Better Place's Shai Agassi has spoken of releasing /
marketing his company's battery-swappable EVs for use in
"transport islands" - eg, Israel, Denmark, Hawaii & here
in AU.

Now, I'd like to use a "micro-level" definition of Trans-
port Island" than his, so we can consider -commercial-
release / marketing of OTS EV's to places (particularly
regional) where folks tend to drive "within their local
island" -and- each of those "islands" are small enough
to give folks relief from "range anxiety" (ie, if they
tend to make pnly a few short trips each day there).

PLEASE LIST ANY & ALL "Transport Islands" IN AUSTRALIA

Here are some (from this morning's meeting):

In NT:

+ Groote Eylandt (Non-islands can also be listed here)

In SA:

+ Copper Triangle (towns around Kadina)

+ The Iron Triangle (Pr Pirie, Pt Augusta, Whyalla)

+ Kangaroo Island (another actual island)

Which other "transport isands" have we yet to hear about?
Please list them in a reply to this thread, thanks.

It is and Shai Aggasi left them anyway. IVI must have been away.
It's been a while since we had someone posting pointless inaccurate rubbish - good to have him/her back - yeah!

Edit: By "it is", I mean in most countries other than the one or two it started in.

Hmmm... BetterPlace.com is still up and looking alive & well...

Perhaps you mean it's scratched AU off its list...

If not, what...?

Also - on YouTube - the "official" Better Place channel
seems to be uploading videos, eg, this one, fron 1 month
ago:

I guess Denmark, etc. have more vision & spare capital
to apply to creating a Green Future than Aussies do, eh?

We have TV shows showing EVs -worse- tha smaller fossil-
fuel cars, depending on where you charge the EV, eg:

+ Tassie makes an EV green, since most of their
electricity comes from Hydropower stations.

+ In Denmark, chargin at night has the same result,
since most of DK's electricity comes from Wind.

I guess AU's Brown Coal power generation show just
how much AU is -lagging- the world Environmentally.

So, doesn't that make you feel like wanting to help
make AU lift its Energy game already?

If not now, when?

So, I'll add to my list:

+ Tasmania (a 3rd real island, but it's also a place that reportedly generates hydro electricity)

BetterPlace.com.au is also alive & happy looking... inviting folks with a -commercially-manufactured- EV (of selected brands) to become members:

"Better Place has membership packages available to support the

+ Holden Volt,
+ Nissan Leaf and
+ Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

A Better Place membership package connects you to the benefits of true zero emissions driving, backed by electric vehicle experts.

We'll install a Charge Spot in your home (or office), provide all of the renewable energy you will require and 24/7 customer support."

Sounds like a step in the right direction to us... :-)

Go for it IVI !! Image

Now, just to stir a bit...
If the Franklin had been dammed and the hydro built then Tas would be powering victoria... no need to burn coal and also Tas would not be the worst financial state in Oz.
ABC checkout would not be able to rubbish the EV credentials and so on.

But what of this...

Now that questions cred.   The volt is a hybrid and NOT a zero emission vehicle. You said "benefits of true zero emissions driving". Get it right man !
The volt releases fuel vapours even if the ICE is not used and still needs oil changes. Then when it starts its ICE, it has worse fuel consumption than the ICE equivalent vehicle.
It should go to the bottom of your list and correctly state that it is a pretend EV and NOT zero emission. At least that would tidy up the truth in advertising issue with your post.

Well, I assumed readers would grok, that my quote-marks
indicate that all the words between -pairs- of them are
from another writer's pen... just like the following:

"These are not my lies! They're other peoples lies!"
(from an old Yiddish humor - in translation - album)

So does it still sound like the right direction when there is an error in fact in the statement ?

Still just stirring. Image

Ok forget the "battery charging" technology they have because everyone has that Image
So Betterplace is the focus of "battery swapping" technology.
Currently that have blown ~$850mil for 21 stations in Israel with 490 cars using it (as of 2012).
So all up it cost investors ~$1.7mil per eV for the last year to swap batteries.
They'd have to charge the ev owners ~$9k each swap to recope thier money.

Sounds dead to me...
