From SlashDot.org, today:
"Auto makers are launching a universal EV charger that charges an electric vehicle in 15 to 20 minutes.
The standard, called Combined Charging System, has been approved by the Society of Automotive Engineers and ACEA, the European association of vehicle manufacturers, as the standard for fast-charging electric vehicles."
You can read & comment on this /. article, here:

Surprisingly, some AEVA members &/or others here on the forum seemed not to think this would be possible.
Perhaps that it IS possible (as evidenced by its occurrence) is evidence of the seriousness of the commitment to EVs by car makers (at least in the places served by the organisations listed in the article).
IT'S TIME THAT AU START TO JUMP ON-BOARD, DON'T YOU THINK?

Next, I -hope- we'll get a similar standard for EV designs that enable replacing dead batteries with newly charged ones, so that Battery Swap stations can become universal, ie, able to serve -all- (future) models of EV.

"Combined Charging System is the result of collaborative efforts between Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen."

As the first comment on this article says, none of these companies even sell EV's.
Meanwhile Nissan and Mitsubishi have real EV's that you can buy today (OK next month for the Leaf in Australia) with J1772 plugs and CHAdeMO DC fast charge.

It is possible just most people won't bother.

IVI, How come you don't see that that a 15 to 20 minute charge makes battery swapping irrelevant? I can't finish my tea and bickies any faster than that.

Some folks -still- believe that Battery Swap Stations'
-only- purpose is to charge batteries & swap them into
EVs, whose compatible & swappable batteries have run [nearly] flat.
Didn't you watch any of Shai Agassi's talks on TED.com
and/or FORA.tv (also on YouTube.com)?

That's funny. Because I was responding to where you wrote above:IVI wrote: Some folks -still- believe that Battery Swap Stations'

"... I -hope- we'll get a similar standard for EV designs that enable replacing dead batteries with newly charged ones, so that Battery Swap stations can become universal, ..."

Yes. I watched several of them. There was one reeeeeally long one. I must have fallen asleep during the part where he said they would still call them "Battery Swap" stations even if they never swap any batteries.
Didn't you read any of Weber's sentences on AEVA?

He didn't say Battery Swap stations would become irrelevant, he said:
"IVI, How come you don't see that that a 15 to 20 minute charge makes battery swapping irrelevant?" [my italics]
But I'm pleased to learn that you do see that now.
