Tesla S ordered forAustralia

Post by marty11 » Sat, 20 Nov 2010, 15:34

Hiya..

I have ordered a Tesla S for delivery 2013.. price unknown at this point.

Orders for the S in australia are just shy of 30 so far. I ordered mine in June, so was one of the first few.

Spoke to Tesla in the US today, and they still had not finalised pricing for options, as in 3 different ranges, and also Australian prices for the Tesla S.

These should be known by 4th Quarter 2011. Cheers- Marty

ps.. it will be charged from a 10 kw solar system, as often as is practical.. from home. When away.. different story.

Will be you be able to register the Tesla S in Australia as a regular vehicle?

I can tell you now that 10kW solar won't even fit on my house.
So no point me putting an order in for a Telsa at this point.
Maybe the next house Image

It will be rh drive, and Tesla want a prescence in Australia, so I am hopeful it will be able to be registered here.

There is talk of Tesla opening an office in Australia, and it may come off.

Not sure , but if they started taking orders in June / july, and have around 30 Tesla S units ordered, they may be able to sell approx 60 -100 per year, add to that the Roadster model.

Re: the solar panels. Yes .. its 60 panels.. more than can fit on the average house!

We may look at some way to power EV 's that visit Jindabyne - Snowy Mountains.. if anyone is planning trips from Canberra to Jindabyne we could work something out for sure.. its a motel.

cheers Marty

Congratulations!

If i had the cash on hand now, i'd reserve a LHD one for myself. Hopefully by the time they're available i can wrangle it. It really does seem like the ideal car for me. The only way it could be better is if it had some kind of fancy lifting suspension system and 4wd. An electric sports car that converts to a rally car would rock.

Why would you want a LHD?

Sounds like you want a Porsche Cayene.

For the price unknown....

Hi Marty11
a friend of mine seen a zero electric motorcycle in Jindabyne last week,
do you own one?
i charge my electric car from a 3.5kw system (21 panels)
it's putting out 26.8kw a day at the moment
your must be pumping out the kw too.
when i was getting my system fitted i asked pyramid power what's the biggest system fitted around here and they said a 10kw system fitted to a motel.
must be yours?

Yes, ours is a 10kw system. Its generating 80kw hours n a good day.

Within 3 years it will be doubled in size.

I havent seen the motor cycle. .but wouldnt mind!

There were thusands of motorbikes here a few weeks ago for the Snowy Ride for charity... so it might have been with that group? (Some bikes stayed around after the Snowy Ride for a while)

Send me a pm if you are in Jindabyne or nearby

By the time the S comes out, i'll probably be living in Canada. :P

I once read a book (scifi) where one of the characters had a new model Jaguar with four hub motors, some kind of fancy fusion power source, and automatically adjustable suspension and tyre tread! From low road racer with slick tyres to tall rally beast with knobbly tyres in about five seconds!

So when you order a Tesla S in Canada, will you go for the longest range model or the cheapest price - shortest range?

Depends on how much money i have coming in at the time. And on whether the short range version can be upgraded later on, or something. It would also depend on where i'm living. If we're not living far from the inlaws, then short range would be fine.

It might not even matter. There's a ferry called the Chi-Cheemaun that's a part of the highway system. Takes two hours to do it's journey, which is plenty of time to recharge haha
