$831.50 is a bargain. In NSW if you choose a new plate, even if it fits totally in the established patterns* and colours, it's ~$110 up front plus $90/year. If you go outside these ("Custom") it's about $440/year.

Yeah both those WA and NSW prices are a bargain! If you want a standard 'custom' 3 alpha + 2 numeric or 3 numeric + 2 alpha plate here in QLD, it's a few hundred. But if you want a full custom 'prestige' plate (2-6 alpha/numeric characters) it's $2295. Ouch...

Until the day the the NSW government realised they could tax the car owner more, special order plates (ABC 123 black on yellow or AB 123 white on black) were $25 once off.
The big cost and annual fees is a huge rort. To top it off they sold of the rights to manage the rort to some of their mates.

$22 for standard replacement plates. For that price I'd forget about custom plates but thats just me.
