ok curiosity has the better of me... what motor, what controller, What batteries are in it?

Has the vehicle passed the necessary Australian safety standards to permit import?

How can you use petrol as well if it's an electric car? Seems a little weird that it only weighs 690kg... they must be lithium batteries. If that's the case then 5000AUD isn't bad. Although small cars like this don't appeal to me. If it's aimed at the Australian market you would need a larger, better looking car.

weight of 690kg yet it has a petrol tank (which in my understanding means it also has the petrol motor).. but only costs $5000AUD? You wouldn't find lithium batteries plus a car, plus motor and controller for $5000 that does over 100km range at the moment.
The 3 figures of RANGE, PRICE and WEIGHT don't go together in this setup.

"The 3 figures of RANGE, PRICE and WEIGHT don't go together in this setup."

But y'see it's not a price, it's a date.
"price:5000AD "
and it's nearly 3000 years into the future.

Obviously $5000 wouldn't be the end price there would be freight, import taxes, this duty that duty ect.

While I am highly sceptical... I would to hear the specs before calling BS.

Things like no manufacturer name and can’t spell Chinese are a fair indication that it is a scam though...

On the basis of Googling hrzhaobo@msn.com as gpnnettrack suggested, I'd give this a 90% chance of being scam. When coupled with the unbelievable claims, I'd give it 98%.

Edit: But nikozhao, please prove me wrong.

Not much of a scam really. I mean who's going to blindly buy one? If it is a scam then the scammer needs to re-think his strategy, probably start by picking people who know nothing about EV's, not a forum containing some highly skilled and talented EVer's

Come on "niko" prove us wrong Image

Oh, I consider series hybrid vehicles to be EVs, since the only source of traction is electrical. (Unlike parallel hybrids). The original post made it sound like a series hybrid vehicle.

Of course, 1kWh of battery doesn't sound like a series hybrid. But presumably, these are just numbers that Richo made up, am I right? Or have you had a real communication with the manufacturers, Richo? Or gleaned some info from a web page?

yep.

considering:
2.4kW for 5hrs = 12kWh pack.
1.0kW for 6hrs = 5kWh pack.

The 12kWh might just make the range they claim if you drive slow with low acceleration.

Like they say "If it's too good to be true..."

Still another ugly eV.

Of course you've already guessed it but yes this is a scam. The chinese characters on the side read "Huzhou City Leihu Electric Car Pty Ltd".

If you are interested the real website that this guy got the photo from is HERE

The specs of the car are somewhat different

Max speed 50-70km/h
Max distance (for a new car) 200km
Battery 48V 200AH
Power 3kw
Recharge 6 hours

Heh Image ! Well done, cardboardtrent.

I feel a little less incautious now about putting considerable time, effort, and money into a conversion, when (if it were true) I could have just waited for the flood of cheap Chinese EVs to take over.

Maybe that will still happen, but probably not this year....   Image

If you look on madeinchina.com there are massive numbers of Chinese EVs. They generally have a top sped of 50-60k/h, 48 V systems and 5kw motors.
As most of us know by now, there is a big steps from a 48 V system to something grunty enough to propel our vehicles up to freeway speeds and cope with the hills that we live amongst.
