Teach me to laugh at those poor people paying over $2/lt for petrol.

The northern roof is already full. The big issue is that the Leaf is parked at the work place during the weekdays.

After I posted this I did sign up to a new provider, with a flat rate of 20.6c / kWh. A 17% increase over the old one. Slightly less on the daily charge too. All things considered not the end of the world.

My list of "green" things to research grows:
- New solar hot water system (old one is gas)
- New stove and oven (also gas)
- Home battery storage
- New cells for the Vectrix (I did ping EV Works but they didn't respond yet)

List of options
  • Move workplace
    Move dwelling
Different mode of transport between the two
Change work hours to suit EV charging
How many kWh do you buy for the Leaf?
Is this worth worrying over?

Workplace EV charging is the solution. Help them get a quote on solar and completely offset the energy.

My previous workplace told me it was NEVER ! going to happen and I had even offered to pay for it installation and all. I thought to myself "I suspect you are wrong"' but maybe not in those exact words. That is when I started working on my escape plan.

It wasn't going to happen where I worked (and part owned the business). Again, an exit plan formed.
Now I have lunch every day at home, while the car gobbles up the sunshine. Today I was musing about taking the car to the servo to fill up the tyres, and then wondered how the other person who does the same work as me manages car maintenance. If you work every day, and are on the move, what happens when your ICE car needs a service? I just keep air in the tyres, and had to get a brake check after I got a stone jammed in one the front disc brakes. We changed the cabin air filter and noting other than that to keep driving 20 to 60km a day.

Then add an EV battery to house power connection, recharge each day and get you house power from work ;)
I guess there will be a ready market for tired EV cells soon. Don't send them to the recyclers, find someone who can supply replacement electrolyte and many of the tired cells can be brought back from the brink and make great household storage cells for when the EV isn't home.
Alternately, buy the wife an EV and swap vehicles each day .... only works if she is a stay at home mum who only uses the EV as a grocery cart and kid taxi ......
