...Is it feasable to add a 12V 40AH (A123) booster pack to an existing 48V 40AH Thundersky system (each with own BMS and charger)...to enable a 60V system... whilst using the 12V booster to run lights etc.??

Was advised against laying the Thundersky cells on their side - the valve at the top of the battery (I take it to let out pressure should it build up) will leak your juices which ain't good.
