Hi Johnny, Been a bit slack lately, but also because have just had my appendix removed ... so you can say I got a bit distracted http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36.gif I'm setting things up still and need to get a thermistor so I can log temp - though it will all be over in 10 minutes so mig...

Hi ACmotor, I hibernate for a bit and then wammo I find this thread ... !!! thanks so much for posting. You are doing what I wanted to do a while back as advised by the tech savy folks on the EVTech forums. But now that you're doing it, I can just sit and watch - and absorb, oh yes, absorb. I look f...

Nanfeng make a contactor with two independent coils in one package which could do the job - though that is not the one that I got in the end. That could likely have done the job, though at a higher cost. But I see what you're saying ... probably not worth the effort for the return/flexibility you ge...

Hemonster's ACIM conversion

Thoughts are still brewing http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif , thanks for the reply Coulomb. It would probably have to be a bit more sophisticated and actually inform a sub controller to - stop the VFD and allow the motor to freewheel, - break the main contactors - cut the 48V pack out -...

Here is a quick schematic of the my proposed switch out topology: http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/624/Battery_bypass_circuit.JPG Some concerns I have ... 1. It needs to break-before-make contact, otherwise the battery will be shorted. 2. Not sure if it is safe to break under load, even though it s...

Hey Johny, Nice blog http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif I'm considering starting mine too ... would make things much easier to read. Forum is nice too for good interaction. That makes the 48V packs less expensive (by about US$80 than the 60V packs. 60V was (600+44)x10 = 6440 48V now 530*1...

Thought I would give an update: I got my Headway sample cells from a guy locally who was selling them after he had done some experimentation. Soapbox on regenerative braking

Wanted to run this past the forum, see what you'll thought. What if I set regen to be equivalent to my car's current engine braking force (by experiment), but this level of regen can be reduced down to zero by pressing the clutch pedal in. The cluth itself will not be connected to the gearbox as the...

DC to DC converters

Johny, that's a crazy price! what a bargain. I wonder how they can sell them that cheaply. The 7V ones however are more powerful at 350W each, whereas these are only 240W, but still that should be plenty I'm sure. What is the 200ohm resistor there for? Do these switch mode supplies need a minimum lo...

DC to DC converters

Hi there, I too am looking at the meanwell AC-DC converters as a DC-DC converter however was wondering if it was ok to series up the inputs rather than tie to mid-pack. Being an ACIM conversion, the pack is going to be 600-700V when fully charged. Not entirely sure of the layout of my pack yet as I ...

Oh that's a pity Nutz ... did you rev it too much http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley2.gif    I'm leaning more towards a Galant now anyway as I'm inclined towards LiFePO4 just for a more elegant design despite the upfront cost. But haven't found a suitable car yet, so may yet flip and flop a fe...

Well he does when you read the forums, he knows that particualr VFD inside out as he's been dealing with them for that last 8 years. Knows all the back doors and even had some help from an inside source. I'm sure that all contributed to his success - though I'm still impressed with what he has been ...

Hi Johnny, Thanks for the update. I've found a local guy in NZ who's selling his lightly used Headway cells, I'm getting 8 of them to test - so at least I know what I'll be getting. I will let you know when I get them. I did write to Headway but found that they were quoting 700USD to ship 14x 48V 20...

I came across these Ford AC Motors on Ebay. As well as this guy who took a 300V 2hp 3ph inverter, pulled out the IGBT smart power module, and replaced it with a 90hp one and has successfully used it to drive the motor. His conversion is a Passat. He got around the odd spline output of the motor usin...

the twin connection point approach *requires* that the high resistance paths are *not* always present. its always one or the other, or neither. if you have both continuously, you will get severe corrosion problems. if you run both at the same time, both would detect the other, and give a false posi...

I beg to differ, unless I am still not understanding what you propose. With two equal resistors from chassis to battery extremes, mid pack will be sitting at the same potential as the chassis therefore insulation failure from mid pack to chassis will not cause any additional current to flow anywher...

What she meant was that if the BMS was to attempt to disconnect the pack due to a cell going under-voltage (maybe over as well), then the BMS would be damaged. Ahh, good point Johnny. I did have that in the back of my mind and intended to ask them about it. MOSFET dies due to massive over-voltage -...

We plan to do our best to make our VF drive do both 3-phase 415 V and single-phase 240 V charging. But this will require a drive that provides the ability to write our own software control loops. We are considering the Control Techniques Unidrive (SP) series, with their optional Applications-Lite p...
