Damon’s Fiat 500e project

Hi, I have been working on a project since the beginning of 2018 to import a Fiat 500e from California with the aim of building a RHD road legal version. I finally purchased a 2016 500e ‘donor’ with 13000km in San Diego in April which after considerable effort finally arrived in Melbourne this week....

Re: Fiat 500e

Hi Terry, at this point the only way to register one legally in Australia is to retrofit the running gear into a RHD Australian compliance vehicle and certify the modifications. That is of course much easier said than done! Given that the ICE 500 has been on sale for 10 years now they can be purchas...

Re: Fiat 500e

Hi Terry, they are an adaptation of the Fiat 500 but the American version which is built in Mexico rather than the Euro version built in Poland which is what we get here. Due to demand from around the world (and weak Australian dollar) they are not that cheap even used. You could probably land an ea...

Re: Total NOOB to convert Classic Mini

You could also look at using a Fiat 500e drivetrain if you want a compact FWD setup geared for torque with good acceleration off the line. They are only sold in California but usually plenty of written off examples available on Copart or IAAI online auction sites. I started off with the idea of conv...

Re: FS - 2011 imiev - $17k - Perth WA

Hi Mark, shipping a car from Perth to Melbourne isn’t too difficult- it takes about a fortnight via rail. I have used CEVA and cost was around $850 last time although it can vary depending on fuel levies.

Re: Fiat 500e

Hi Matthew,
Yes it would be a grey import as they are not sold outside California and Oregon.
I don’t believe it would be possible to road register an import younger than 25 years even if converted to RHD?

Fiat 500e

Hi,
I’m working through the process of importing a Fiat 500e from California, does anyone know if there are any others already here in Australia?
Thanks, Damon
