Re: Importing Leaf ZE1 (current) model..
Have the rules changed regarding imports? How come you can now 'grey' import a 40kWh leaf when that's what Nissan are selling? Yes, last year the laws changed and particularly for EVs and Hybrids you can import models that weren't sold here. Because Nissan took their precious time releasing the 2nd...

Re: Importing Leaf ZE1 (current) model..
There's a market for crashed 40 kWh Leafs though - their battery fits right inside a 2012 Leaf, and can be tricked to work nicely thanks to the guys in NZ and Quebec. So a 2012 Leaf is what $15k at best here? And the battery from a 40kwh Leaf is $"n"k, lets say 10? Someone needs to install, test an...

Importing Leaf ZE1 (current) model..
Thinking of importing a ZE1 Leaf... Does the 40kwh model (current) have much in the way of battery degradation issues like the 30kwh? I'm looking at whats available in the $30 something K mark and there are a bunch of 40kwh imports that can be had for that sort of money. But if the battery isn't goi...

EV labelling laws
So now we need to put these little stickers on our EV:

Does anyone else reckon the petrol and diesel vehicles should be the ones having to have stickers? They have liters and liters or flammable fuel right?

Re: Base Ioniq hybrid pricing...
I'd say the Ioniq is a far better car than those others. Many would argue that Toyota has a far better brand image, lets say when it comes to reliability and resale value. What makes you think Hyundai is better? Assuming these are before on-road costs? As I said... drive away prices. So on road.

Base Ioniq hybrid pricing...
Does anyone else find the price of the Ioniq hybrid a bit steep? Lets say compare it with the Toyotas (all prices drive away): - Ioniq Hybrid: $38.7k - Corolla Hybrid: $30k - Prius: $40.5k - PriusV: $41.7k - Rav4 Hybrid: $40k The Ioniq is on par with the Corolla size wise... but a lot more expensive...

Re: Telltale lights
So I had an epiphany on the way home. That random range figure that I thought was busted always hangs around between 130 and 146 km... wait... oh... ooooHHHHHH. That's the pack voltage!!! So I must have a later firmware. Maybe already the dugass or something. Coming back to the warning lights. Now t...

Re: Telltale lights
Though if the red light came on before you started drawing significant amounts of power, that would seem unlikely Was the red battery light persistent? or did it turn off again? It did turn off again once I crested the top of the hill and went a little further on the flat. Lets see what it does tod...

Re: Telltale lights
red battery light on its own usually means the motor controller is running at low voltage limit. I forget what it is for the original firmware. I *think* it was 108v, which if you're doing a sustained hill climb might make sense I still had 5 bars of battery left at the time (like >138V?) and the l...

Re: Telltale lights
So I was coming home after writing this post and at the bottom of the same hill the maintenance light comes on like clockwork. I'd just coasted down this big long hill, hitting 90kph, but I didn't use any regen this time. Then got to the bottom and started winding on throttle to go up the other side...

Telltale lights
I've seen a few telltale lights illuminate over the last few days. According to the manual they are: Battery Tell Tale (red battery): Flashed for a few minutes as I was going up a long hill very slowly in bumper to bumper traffic. Maintenance Required Tell Tale (orange hammer): Also flashed for a fe...

AGM for home storage?
So I've been looking around for home storage solutions for a while now. For instance the powerwall 2 would be a nice amount of battery but I balked at the 12k cost. I doubt I'd ever see a return on that. For reference I have a 3.35kw solar array that most of the time feeds back into the grid at 12c/...

Re: Welp, ran out of charge for the first time
So in my desire to figure out what it can really do I decided to do a test ride yesterday. I reset the trip meter and rode around in circles, towards the end I made sure to decrease distance from home in case I ran out of power. As I approached zero bars I stayed uphill from home. I managed 63km on ...

Re: Welp, ran out of charge for the first time
The burning question for me is "has the packs capacity changed at all?". If I assume that the bottom 5 bars weren't really there, then I have the same(ish) number of bars now? Have they all just shifted down to be aligned with the bottom? If my range is the same (big if) then I should be able to get...

Re: Welp, ran out of charge for the first time
So I didn't come away unscathed. The bike won't charge beyond 3/4 on the gauge. Just starts charging and then beeps and switches to ready flashing. I don't know what to do to "fix" that. The est range area shows 146(V) at the start of charging, and the ODO shows CP 152(V). The pack voltage quickly g...

Re: Welp, ran out of charge for the first time
I once ran out of fuel while idling, waiting in line at the servo  But at least it was probably the most convenient place to run out of juice. Similar... pulled up to the pump. Before I reach for the key the engine cuts out... well then.. lol. So I asked the Chiro place across the street for ...
