If links were to be stripped, it'd be good if the poster were somehow notified - people seem to struggle enough with links as it is. I suspected the purpose of the bogus posts was to raise search engine rankings. Maybe people should have to post to the "what do you do for a living" or maybe a new "i...

And anyway, everyone knows that red cars/bikes go faster!

BTW, I like the bike & voted for it on the Mercury site. When do they go on sale?

Mercedes A and B class donors; stability control

Nice-looking Merc A-190 potential donor on eBay here, especially if you're in QLD. What was the consensus on the ABS and conversion? Is it a go or no-go, or does it depend on which (nanny) state you live in ATM?

Mitsubishi Electric Car lands in Australia

Well that is the problem that Mitsi have at present. No stock to offer. It is the old marketing nightmare for the Oz dealership. There would be no point in wide promotion if there is no product to sell ! There isn't even a waiting list to go on ! Strange, I thought you said you would buy one! Marcopo...

Mitsubishi Electric Car lands in Australia

My concern is that MMAC keep talking about "gauging interest" but don't actually seem to have any mechanism in place to do that. I'd have thought the easiest gauge for them to implement would be a contact form on the iMiev site and a waiting list. If an enthusiast (relatively web-savvy) like me has ...

Mitsubishi Electric Car lands in Australia

ACMotor, how'd you find out about the iMiev show in Perth? Was it only today? I registered interest in the iMiev on Mitsubishi's website ages ago, do you think they'd have contacted me to tell me about this? How badly do they want to sell them? I bet if it was a Pajero, a Magna or a Colt, they'd be ...

Hi Sunkosi, Several thoughts: 1. I'd have thought that a 30kg saving on a racing yacht was actually quite significant. I guess it depends on your budget and how much it would cost you to lose that 30kg by other means. 2. Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's easier to kill lithium b...

Mercedes A and B class donors; stability control

I notice there's a number of A-Class available on eBay for under 15K (A-Class Search). Interestingly, there's one there in NSW for $7,700 - the seller actually specifically says that the starter motor was replaced last month.

Mercedes A and B class donors; stability control

Hi guys, Fantastic bit of research! I've been considering a Honda Jazz as a donor vehicle, but the Merc A class seems to make more sense. I have liked the A class since it first came out but have been surprised how many people hate it. I live in WA, but could be quite interested in helping with rese...

nuclear power

Rob, like most technologies, nuclear power has some drawbacks. However, to class nuclear power generation as inherently dangerous and unsafe is wildly inaccurate. There are approximately 450 nuclear power plants operating in the world. Many countries have relied on nuclear power for more than 50 ye...

I know crustovich and have been having some telephone discussions with him about his bike and giving him some (occasionally misguided) suggestions. A bit of "blind leading the blind" I think, but we're both learning. I know however that where he lives is quite hilly and his main measure of performan...

... Our natural resources are already groaning under the weight of the increasing human population and it's high time we resort to other sources of power! Good point. Lots of nuclear power stations, especially dodgy ones in developing countries, should help produce a few disasters which will quickl...

ABC TV stateline 5th March 2010

I saw the show and was quite disappointed by the heavy emphasis on the possible impact on WA's power grid of "all these electric cars". Everyone here seems to plonk a house on a block without any thought of how it might perform in this climate, then install a bigger air conditioner to try and make i...

That's a direct quote from the iMiev page on the Mitsubishi Australia website: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/microsites/imiev.aspx#/microsites/imiev.aspx . Unfortunately, I couldn't find any links that enabled me to arrange a test drive or otherwise express my strong interest in this vehicle. ...

That gets to the problem that gets brought up about renewables that they aren't base load, ie when everyone turns on thier air conditioner the power company can't ask the sun to shine over thier solar panels Maybe it's different in other states, but an interesting thing I've noticed here in Perth i...

Smart car conversion

I've occasionally wondered about the Smart as an EV but it'd be an expensive donor. I notice they're jumping on the green wagon - now have a micro-hybrid drive . Methinks the "micro" refers to the amount of "hybridity". AFAICT, all it does is turn off the motor when you slow down below 9kph and turn...

I like the wiki idea :-) Is there some nice free open software for doing circuit diagrams etc so people can document their working vehicles/ideas? There's been a lot of excellent information about batteries on this forum, but this superb summary takes first prize IMHO. It belongs on a FAQ "Which battery technology should I choose for my EV?"
