new newbie section??

I like the wiki idea :-) Is there some nice free open software for doing circuit diagrams etc so people can document their working vehicles/ideas? (Picture tells a thousand words and all that) Have you tried Dia? It's an open source program (ie free, as in beer) that is "is roughly inspired by the ...

The dear and best-vs-good and cheap Batteries

There's been a lot of excellent information about batteries on this forum, but this superb summary takes first prize IMHO. It belongs on a FAQ "Which battery technology should I choose for my EV?"

EV talk at Living Smart (Kalamunda)

Hi Ian, From the slide show, it seems to me like it was a great talk. To the point, punchy and pushing all the right buttons. How did you feel it went down? For people that don't have PowerPoint, you can either download a free PowerPoint viewer from Micro$oft here: PowerPoint 2007 Viewer , or if you...

Electric boats?

Something like this maybe? I suspect they'd not post it to Oz though Image and it probably wouldn't have the range to cross to the Panama Canal, let alone the Pacific after that!

Electric boats?

Hi All, I've been doing quite a bit of research on this. I actually killed the ICE in my yacht about 6 years ago, but at the time knew nothing about marine electric motors so replaced it with another ICE http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley19.gif . BGA, you're partly right when you say "the moto...

I spent 13 years in the Navy and I enjoyed most of it, but have a few tips. Firstly, any promise made to you that's important to you, get in writing. I know of many people who were made promises by recruiters that simply never eventuated. Secondly, anticipate being away from home a lot. If you have ...

SPOTTED!

Go Mandurah! I'll look forward to the newsletter. Wouldn't it be great if all our posties used these instead of the noisy, smelly, usually-badly-in-need-of-a-tuneup ICE ones they use now. They'd have to go back to the old days of using a whistle too as you wouldn't hear when the mail came anymore! C...

Hi Power Batteries

Hi lithbattboss,

It wasn't me actually, it was "The Doctor" (see page 2 of this thread) who was interested, though I may well be contacting you in the near future anyway.

Cheers,

Heater-- Demister

Hmmm, I wonder if it has a pump included, or if it relies on convection flow? If the latter, would convection flow be enough for effective use as a car heater or would one have to add a water pump as well? I suspect a water pump would be needed for maximum efficiency.

Cheers,

Air Con and Power Steering

Hi Steve, 2kW, wow! If it were me, I'd be trying to find out the actual output from an auto A/C compressor and seeing if there was a 12V one that produced the same output. Alternatively, heat pump technology is touted as being very efficient, maybe there's an option there? Interestingly, this Wikipe...

Air Con and Power Steering

Hi guys, I know little about refrigeration, but on my yacht I have an extremely efficient fridge. It uses a 12V Danfoss compressor and a tiny condenser. When running, it pulls a maximum of 4A. As my fridge has very thick foam insulation, I easily run this fridge day-in-day-out off a couple of 18W so...

Hi Juk, It sounds like you own one of these, or have done so. I'm interested to hear about the weight issue, I'd not thought about that. Interestingly, I've hunted around a bit and not been able to find any page that documents the weight of the Avanti Electra. Have you weighed yours? Where do you th...

Electric/AEVA/renewable car stickers

Put me down for a "I wish I was an electric vehicle www.aeva.asn.au" sticker, I've got two Dino guzzlers that need those while I await fiscal approval to start my own project. I might even be able to distribute some amongst some of my friends. The more there are of those on dino-guzzler bumpers, the...

I cycle to the local shops (about a km away) so I'd not use electric assist for that, but currently, I use the ICE to commute to the station each morning and I'd probably be interested in it for that. That trip only has one "hill" - an overpass actually, not too steep. Sorry to hear you have health ...

Well done Norm, BTW, does anyone know anything about the Avanti Electra bike? I've been interested for a while and I just noticed that an old friend of mine was involved in the design. Mind you, it's a bit hard to find anything about them on the Avanti site ATM so maybe they're not doing them anymor...

Hi Ian, I'm very new around here, having joined only a month ago, so please excuse me if this is a silly question, but what is the target Audience for the magazine? Hi, I'd like to come along to the AGM but may be a bit late and hence am worried there might not be any crowds to follow by then. Can someone give a bit of detail about where the meeting will be? Mitsubishi i MiEV in AUS in 2009

I agree it's great to see Mitsubishi biting the bullet and actually planning to sell the MIEV here. A visionary Government would have done what it took to get Mitsubishi to build MIEVs in Adelaide (or somewhere in Australia) instead of paying Toyota to build more hybrids that at the end of the day a...
