Re: PHEV Loss of Km Range with Battery.

Hi Richard, Thanks for those interesting replies, Rob. The PHEV certainly is a slug on petrol alone. I would never try towing a caravan with it in hilly country. But for what I use it for, it is fine. I believe that when towing or doing hills, it is important to conserve battery power for extra oomp...

Please be aware that some UPS connect mains neutral to the battery negative so the batteries should be fully enclosed for safety.
Thanks for that info. My system is basically Batteries + 240V charger + inverter so it's not a formal UPS as such.

Cheers,

Charging 2x12V batteries connected in series

Hi, I am looking to repurpose a couple of 100AH 12V AGM batteries as a UPS for our office. I already have a good 24V inverter and a dead 240->24V charger so I need to replace the charger. 240->24V chargers seem to be way more expensive than their 12V counterparts which I am guessing is at least part...

Re: PHEV Loss of Km Range with Battery.

Hi Richard, That information about the drainage plugs was reassuring re water crossing. I also had a minor car park misadventure. Without jacking, I had a look under the car and although I did not know exactly what I was looking for, there was no sign of anything having made contact with any obstruc...

Re: PHEV Loss of Km Range with Battery.

Hi Richard, ... Sorry to read of your puddle problem. I will certainly now be very careful in such situations. Even prior to that, I had long wondered how waterproof the battery is considering it’s under the car floor. I think the answer is to stay out of water... I've not updated the other thread y...

Green Sparky South of Perth?

Can anyone recommend a good "green" sparky in Perth, preferably in the southern suburbs, ideally in the Rockingham area. We have 3-phase power, an "old" meter box and a 5.7kW solar array with a grid-tie inverter. I want to establish a working relationship someone who can start by setting up our mete...

Hi tressteleg1 , I put the full story on this forum last year . Re: PHEV Loss of Km Range with Battery.

We had the BMS replaced in our PHEV last year. Following this, our "guessometer" battery range after a full charge shot up from 50km to 65km. Actual range experienced on a full battery increased from 42-45km to 50-55km. I was convinced that our 2014 PHEV had received a 2017 BMS as I'd read somewhere...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?

I like the flashing exhaust idea, but if the person in front has their head in their phone, they won't see it anyway. I love that EVs are quiet and don't contribute to noise pollution, but until our population gets used to quiet cars, I think it's reasonable to make some sort of warning noise. As so...

...When asked about warranty they said 12 months. Que? So that means that a replacement battery has a much shorter warranty than the one that comes with a new vehicle? Re: Fiat 500e

From what I have read in Australia and overseas I’m also not convinced there is enough technical depth of manufacturer or dealer after sales backup now or in the near future to justify the premium of buying a local model either. Our experience so far in having our Outlander PHEV repaired by Mitsubi...

Yes, that's right.
We use them for our motorhome now as we don't need one for the PHEV. We use your old Volt EVSE when we're out and about and the existing Mitsubishi EVSE stays at home plugged in to the 15A socket in the garage.

I agree g4qber that looks a better option than the Jaycar one so a great suggestion for others following along. Re: Repair 10A-15A Converter?

OK, I bought a replacement RCD today from MM Electrical at Rockingham. I bought a Clipsal RCBM210/30 240V/10A RCD and at $41.22, I thought I'd paid quite a lot for it until I saw the RRP on the Clipsal website. I know manufacturer RRPs are always a bit fantasy-land, but $182.20? I figured this must ...

L&H have the same one but I'm not a sparky so I don't have a login to check the price. I notice they have two different 10A units, one with a "rated fault current" of 10mA and the other 30mA. The one in my converter is 30mA, is that the best rating to get, or a "cheaper option"? Also, in the blurb a...

Repair 10A-15A Converter?

Hi all, I've got a Jaycar 10A-15A converter + RCD that has died on me. The orange LED on the side lights up when you plug it in to the wall and switch it on, but the socket in the unit itself is dead and the RCD shows no sign of life: the test button doesn't work and the on/off switch doesn't seem t...
