Electric Shocks to charge batteries
Saw this on Wired http://blog.wired.com/cars/2009/02/students-at-the.html "The regenerative shock absorber uses the oscillations of a vehicle's suspension to generate electricity. Its inventors claim a heavy-duty truck using six of their GenShock shock absorbers can produce enough power to displace ...

Lots of different styles of LED automotive globes at a website called dealextreme.com Prices are in US dollars, but they have free shipping to Australia, and if you buy in bulk (well usually 3 or more of the same item) you can get a discount on the item price. I've bought some stuff from them, not g...

EV calculator
Is there an EV calculator web page anywhere that I can plug a bunch of info into to work out what sort of engine, batteries & controller specs I'd need? First thing I'm trying to work out is: a direct drive (not using the gearbox) through a 4.1 diff, what rpm would the electric motor be doing at 80 ...

$6000 EV

If it does then it would need to be a bucket of rust with 25km range.
I saw a 4 door late 80's early 90's BMW E series (E30? was like the one in your avatar 318, 325 that sort of model) for sale for $600 on friday.
So not all cheap cars are rust buckets.

If you mounted it upside down all the diff fluid would leak out through the vent hole. If you mounted a diff vertically it may not get lubricated correctly. I believe you cant run diffs in the opposite direction they were designed to run for an extended periods either. The crown wheel and pinion gea...

I used to have a KE Laser TX3 AWD turbo. I've added VW and mini moke to the list of cars I'm considering. I'm like the idea of a separate chassis car, so that later down the track I can swap the body with a better looking/more aero dynamic kit car without too much trouble. Now if they only made a Po...

That's something I've never thought of. I suppose you could use the front diff from a four wheel drive (like a nisan patrol) and mount the motor behind the axle line also.

Would have been just as easy to sit the engine/gearbox on a trolly jack and use that to do the heavy lifting, while someone kept it balanced on the jack.

Hi Guys I've been interested in electric cars for a while now, but never thought I'd take the plunge, so to speak, but with the ever increasing price of petrol I'm thinking now might be the time to go electric. I've been inspired by this guys 240Z : http://ampeater.wordpress.com I've seen a few othe...
