Max safe revs for ADC 8"?
Thats good to know. I had thought that 5500rpm was the safe limit for ADC but dont know where I got that info from. Accidentally revved my motor (a K91-4003) to an estimated 8000rpm when I had first gear but thought it was in 3rd!

General Electrical Question
Neville on the subject of energy densities I found a website the other day which gave me a different perspective by comparing the ICE drivetrain - engine, gearbox, fuel tank etc weight to a EV with next gen battery technology. ICE example - "the real energy density of the drivetrain is optimisticall...

Prius Plugin
I think there is one in Sydney? I dont have any personal experience with a Plugin Prius but my understanding is this: You wont be able to use EV exclusively around town unless you can put up with really slow acceleration. The way a plugin Prius operates around town is ICE running to warmup for coupl...

Cruise ! in Prius to Sydney
Its not my Prius.. just found the video on YouTube. But yeah you can see at the start of the video he is clearing the error codes. Though on my 2001 Prius I have pulled the EFI fuse before to see what would happen.. Turn the key and it tries to start up and stalls then gives some warning symbols but...

Divorce your Car! Interesting reading
I thought this book is an interesting read. Divorce Your Car!: Ending the love affair with the automobile by Katie Alvord Only got to page 34 so far.. Some choice quotes: "Traffic jams became "the norm" by 1912" "early auto magazines admitted motorists were obsessed with speed" "They were noisy a...

Congratulations Lachlan!
Any chance of some pictures?
How are you powering your digital meters?
Are they just wired directly into your 12v accesory battery? I think they need to have a small DC-DC 12v-12v convertor to power them.

I got some LED globes for my car. The red Brake/Tail lights are good and similar in brightness to original. The LED Indicator bulbs that I tried were no good though only lighting a small portion of the lense.

Hi Magneto Using battery voltage to estimate your depth of discharge is not very accurate but with sealed lead acid you cant use a hydrometer. I also have Optimas in my car. The Optima website doesnt have any information on depth of discharge that I could find. But here is a site that gives some dat...

Just watched it now, you can find the video on the nine msn website. Nice work Blair! I agree it was a good segment apart from the savings calculations they made towards the end.(and the don't try this at home statement) They said the most you would pay a year is $650 in electricity costs and the...

I like the idea of a super aero trike! As far as I know the longest distance between service stations on the Nullarbor is 200km. So range wouldn't be a problem!

The voltage switch must be wired up because the output voltage drops to 3.2v when its in 220v mode.
The 8V (110V mode) was without any load. Looks like not all SMPS are created equal, oh well.

I wired it up yesterday and it doesn't seem to work. It's set to 110v on the internal switch and the output is only 8.1v-8.2v and adjusting the pot only increases it from 8.1v upto 8.2v.
So I tested it on 240vAC with it switched to the 240v setting and it gives 13-15v.

Garnaut says EVs worse for greenhouse
What sparked my interest in EV's was Peak Oil. Im not convinced about manmade climate change and the obsession with CO2 emissions. But pollution is a real problem regardless. We are getting a 1kw PV system installed and I think it is important to push the Renewable energy potential for EV's. Though ...
