PIP-4048MS inverter

I should add that is wasn't just the voltage swing up and down on the display the load was jumping up and down to. It's like the pip is controlling the pilot signal to the imievs charger and make it ramp up and down.Though it's only triggered when the charger varies the charge rate. Not always as ev...

Great short Imiev video

This video shows a Imiev rear drive package being removed/reinstalled as one unit. along with the removal and reinstall of the battery box. I love how simple the imiev is being a retrofitted ICE / EV production car everything is very modular and not integrated like a typical ground up EV build. make...

PIP-4048MS inverter

Today I had our Imiev in the shed and was charging it (usually I charge it in the garage from the houses selectronic inverter) in the shed today it was charging from the pip 3200w load. I had the issue again as the imiev started to ramp down it's charge rate near 100% SOC the pip went Into a cycle w...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Could there be something particular about that vacume cleaner load that caused the voltage spike. The few vacumes I have pulled apart look to have very crude motors.

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Hopefully some good luck from now on. That upgraded pip of mine has to deal with a lot surge loads as its main duty now is powering the shed. Particularly the car hoist the spike is significant more so when started under a few ton load. The 16cfm air compressor and a few other things give it a real ...

iMiev battery size

The battery is 320v nominal and 50ah when new. 320 x 50 = 16,000 or 16kwh Your 12.8kwh is AC kwh from the wall. That energy has to go through some AC/DC conversion along with running the cars (system on power requirements) So not all of that 12.8kwh AC that you measured is actually flowing into the ...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Thanks for giving it a go guys! I appreciate the effort and expense involved. Bugger looks like there is more to the PIPs 50w baseline metabolism http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif I have measured two pips as just under 50w (48w) with a little shunt based dc power meter. 69w is 40% more c...

I don't think the Imievs BMS would let you hurt the battery it's Idiot proof and shuts the car down well before harm can be done. That said just like a RPM limiter on a ICE car will limit the RPM to 7,000rpm and not allow you to damage the engine. Its not best practice to drive around at 6,000 - 7,0...

2 bars flashing on the dash gauge is over 20% SOC something like 22% from memory. 10mv variation is nothing that's fine. typically when balanced the Imive is able to get all the cells within 5mv (even showing all 88 cell at 0mv variation) though the gauge resolution on cannon is only 5mv. I think th...

PIP-4048MS inverter

I always thought condensation formed when warm moisture laden air hits a cold surface. So warm moist air is getting sucked into the base of the pip yes i can see that happening in a humid environment but it would be hitting a warmer surface with the hot components inside the PIP am I missing somethi...

Paulvk, So the 100mm fans at the top are they sucking hot air out as in you have flipped over the bottom stock fans to pull air in from the bottom and blow it to the top? then assisted by the two external fans pulling the hot air out the top? Or are the stock bottom fans in the original orientation ...

What to replace i-MiEV with?

KM on the clock doesn't seem to play a big part in the health of a EV battery. Some Imievs with close to 100,000km have similar battery health (usable capacity) to Imievs with 20,000km. I agree if you are worrying about a battery and what to do years down the track if and when you need one and that'...

What to replace i-MiEV with?

First hurdle would be the physical dimensions of the LEV75 cells. I would assume because a LEV75 has 50% more capacity than a LEV50 that it would be larger in size or has the energy density of the LEV75 improved enough to have the same dimensions as the LEV50?

I have a 4 ton two post car lift in the shed that would make he job easy.

Though I'm sure with some jacks car stands and creativity you could lower it down it's only 250kg or so perhaps even less.

What to replace i-MiEV with?

The idea was as long as yuasa are making cells for MM you will be able to get cells for your imiev. Even if for some reason you can't it's just a battery. Use another battery cell and rebuild The pack. I have a spare battery box in the shed from a wreck and it's a very simple layout. They are still ...

What to replace i-MiEV with?

Well a 2010 only needs to last to 2020 for the 10 year rule of thumb Im using. Though it will depend on what range you need minimum befor the car isn't usefull any more. Our 2012 has to able to do a 25km trip two times a day with 5hrs in-between to recharge 250km week . While it can still do this it...

What to replace i-MiEV with?

From memory last person I spoke to that contacted MM was talking more like $7000 all up for a new battery and asotiated gear. One other advantage is depreciation. Any new car has it in spades and most EVs have it in bucket loads. Given most of us got our imiev's new or near new for 1/2 RRP or some L...

What to replace i-MiEV with?

Why replace it just replace the battery. That's my plan for our 2012 imiev on its 10th birthday if it needs it. I would say it's the best value for money choice. Best environmental choice. One reason Why I want to keep the imiev is. A lot of the new EVs have big battery capacitys. Packs that are 40k...

Guys if you haven't already ordered the wire from that eBay seller listed I would perhaps consider not doing so. I could have have just annoyed him by asking him to change my order to a different spec. He was Ok with that at first (so he should be as it was listed for less money) Then asked him to a...
