Re: minicab miev charging help

Great that it was fairly simple (easy to say once the nerves calm down) Greg.
Love to hear about the progress of the Minicab as time goes by.
It's a vehicle I have my eye on if my DIY ever has a non-repairable accident.

Re: minicab miev charging help

Locate the fusebox and check all the fuses. If you have the owners manual it should tell you which fuse does interior lights etc.
Oh - and I'd remove the "wire" to the head unit until you understand why it caused the trouble.

Should this work?

Re: iMiEV - any good?

I also thought Victoria had some legislation about being able to identify the previous owner of a 2nd hand car. Easily ducked I would imagine but worth asking. A previous owner should have no reason not to be honest about the cars' range.

Very interested Ben. Trivial things like indicator switch return plastic gizmos are very rare for Hillman/Humber Rootes cars of the 1960's.

I-MiEV Main battery cell failure

Balancing is triggered in the iMiEV ONLY when you run the iMiEV to <2 bars (ie flashing), and balancing only happens once the charge is completed, and needs to be via a Level 1 or 2 charge, ie not CHADEMO fastcharge. If you use a timer, be careful to allow this extra time. Mitsubishi recommend doin...

Overall impedance of a battery

I think we have known for some time that high SOC and high temperatures are a Lithium cell killer. I know we have given advice to that extent (here) and I try to keep my SOC low when I can't help but leave the car in the hot sun - or leave it for any more than a few hours. I am in trouble every now ...

You sold your Haflinger!!! Oh well the minicab will be a whole new experience. I remember a Haflinger (from the dealership) came on a Cross Country Jeep Club trip in about 1968. They were a tough little vehicle.
Did you get a 10.5 or 16kw/h minicab?

Reverse-cycle (heat pump) heating

Fantastic Chris. That engine bay is looking very full.

The system you have put it will help take heat away from the motor as well.

So does it work well?

To be able to be charged externally - regardless of battery pack size.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle => PHEV. Kind of says it all doesn't it?

Hi Bernie. I didn't find that books were all that helpful - being generally already out of date with what is available. Trawl forums such as this one and ask LOTS of questions. Just expect the odd rude answer and ignore it. Especially check out anyone who has a build blog and has used readily availa...

This was causing an ICE-type flat spot under acceleration. I will follow up your other suggestions but this one may well have prevented a serious issue. Thank you. Wow what an unintended bonus. I must admit I do a quick tour of my pack with work's infrascope about once a year or so but my current d...

AGM charging

A few questions. You don't mention charge rate. Are the chargers "smart" - in terms of reaching full charge then settling to a float voltage. In either case a main consideration is not to overheat AGMs. Typical maximum temperatures are around 45 to 50 degrees C. This gets a bit difficult in hot weat...

I wonder if the PIP has a PFC front end on its charger. If not, it could be the high harmonic content that is causing grief.

Anyone see a report about the status of "smart meters" as a means for outsiders to determine much information about the house. I can't see a crim going to so much trouble to interpret power usage when they can just observe the house for s couple of days to determine residence. The "smart" fridge, a...

Paul I have read a few times that the TC Chargers charge current can be controlled with the Enable pin. Pretty easy in Victoria as a Smartmeter is required for PV systems. I can see my usage/generation online recorded in 30 minute increments.

Tesla 85KWh battery and running gear

What is the chance that the exact pack shape fit's in a conversion? Extremely low I would think. You would have to make an ICV with the express purpose of fitting a Tesla pack of that vintage - or fit the whole lot into a tray truck! Getting the sub-packs out of the full pack is doable but the subp...

Lane Splitting for motorbikes up to some speed (I think 40km/h) is now allowed in Victoria. Happened a couple of months ago.
