Pumped hydro and crazy energy schemes

How long would it take to pump 25000L back up again? If you could rinse and repeat that could be a handy 1.6kW overnight base load for the house at least or for an occasional added extra load. Where offgrid lives I doubt there's very often the tanks would be empty and even in parched SA with empty t...

Sharing Home chargers

"A 100 km car might be perfect 99% of the time" Exactly - but also showing where drivers just may be able to top up a little on one side of town or the other would be very helpful. I live on the south side of Adelaide and near public slow and fast chargers so probably my place is not much help anyw...

Sharing Home chargers

Just so you know, I voted other as the reason at the current address is the power point is only accessible if I'm home to unlock the door and move other vehicles out of the way. Bit tricky for random callers.
Perhaps awkward access could be a choice. I do plan to change this at the next residence.

DC Fast Charger location question

Quote:I think we need to take a drive :)" Probably the best idea - bit of a test run! Would a charge at a coffee shop allow the range to get somewhere nice ( and back to the FC) for an outing? That's what I thought about Gawler in SA -big enough place for a short stop and FC to then go touring the B...

DC Fast Charger location question

Well guys, I am not familiar with Perth so cannot help with locations. However, my experience of fast charging my imiev took me from 27% charge to 80% in 20 minutes. And took my guessometer on that occasion from 25km to 100km exactly ( based on suburban driving not highway). So, I definitely think y...

Dihatsu Mira/Handi conversion $2500

(it's still registered in WA). Is it registered as an EV, though??? Because to bring into SA you have to take it in for an identity inspection and I'm sure they'll notice it's no longer petrol driven. This would lead to issues with approval for the conversion, I think. And loss of rego until you ha...

DC Fast Charger location question

Well, I have a few answers for Adelaide. As I live relatively close to the existing FC which is on the main road 15 mins south of the city (Mitsubishi) and would also cover a return journey to the hills (east), I'd be looking for FC which allowed me to travel further north/south on weekends. I also ...

iMiEV tyre wear status

" sadly yes, I would have changed the tyres earlier" Well that's a glowing recommendation - I think new tyres are on my "very soon" list! "I can't see a direct link in energy consumption yet" acmotor - are you able to compare the first 1000km or 2000km on the old tyres with this first 1000km on the ...

iMiEV tyre wear status

So, AC Motor, if you had known how much better the handling would be, would you have bought these tyres at the beginning? Having experienced the "cross wind dance" a few times now, and not enjoyed it, I am contemplating changing the fronts regardless. Worth it?? And have you yet noticed any loss of ...

*Recall*Vacuum pump for brakes

Today, I got a call from a local imiev owner who was very surprised, when dropping off their recently purchased ex demo imiev for it's first service, to be told the vacuum pump needed to be replaced under this recall. They are not happy it wasn't done whilst the car was a demo or predelivery to them...

Gabz -what did you start at?? and is this a recurrent issue with your car too? Just trying to figure out what's normal for imiev.

TPMS on i-MiEVs

Bruce, Which Bob Jane was it? Might as well try someone with a clue about the cars. Maybe get my tyres balanced and the valves checked. How much were the new tyres esp. the fronts? I recall someone bought them and found they lessened the wind buffeting. I have checked the tyres with a home gauge - t...

Imiev measured data

Quote:"I ran the car in 40C weather (record breaking for the sunshine coast hinterland) a few days ago with AC on over the full 104km tip."

Was there a noticeable reduction in range that you noticed from this??
Was it the up the Hill trip? or the down trip?.

TPMS on i-MiEVs

I'm also noticing tyre pressure loss in Adelaide. Noticable handling difference has led me to check twice in 3 weeks over a total of 500km distance. First time (after few days of very hot weather 40+degrees) - checked at night time( possible 30 degrees ambient temp - pressures had dropped from 36 to...

Buying an i-Miev in Australia - different radios

Quote: ""does anyone have ideas how to make the speedo readable in noon day sun?" Had my first experience of this a couple of days ago, driving south-east at 2pm in the hot Adelaide sun. Annoying for a few kms. I can confirm window tinting does not help with this issue, as I had my new imiev's windo...

Fast Charging and meeting the Outlander PHEV

Well, I had a go with the Mitsubishi fast charger yesterday. Started at 27% SOC (3 bars) and bumped me off at 80% SOC (13 bars). Time taken 20 minutes. Amps decreased from 120 at the start down to 30 at 80% SOC. Voltage 355 to 365 throughout. As I currently live 5.5km from the FC - the BIG question ...

New Imiev may be bigger . current battery shortage

Quote: " You realise the iMiEV could reach a gentle 1,000km range with the tesla 85kW pack " LOL - that would be amazing - only have to charge once a month for local driving! Is that pack heavier to lug around??? Now, how could I get the imiev to also tow a 300kg camper trailer(which is what I norma...

New Imiev may be bigger . current battery shortage

Quote:"Yep I kinda like the Imiev at the size it is, and would opt for it to stay the same, and be able to take advantage, say, of higher density battery packs that weigh the same, and fit into the same space, in years to come" Well after owning my imiev for a whole 10 days (hardly an expert yet)......
