Weber and Coulomb's MX-5

Some nice ideas in that design and I’m glad to see you are looking at leakage currents - should be on all conversions. When I look at this in 2008, I was going to make up a simple circuit design similar to the idea that Ian Hooper discussed with acmotor and others back in 2008. I then read about the...

You have a great machine Renard. Re the “What will I-mievs and Leafs be like after five, ten or fifteen years?” question. I think they will be very robust in the electronics and electro-mechanical areas for many years to come. Can’t comment on the Leafs, but the i-MiEV is well designed following the...

Just got this email (14/12/13) about the Android App.... "Hello Bruce, Thanks for contacting us. I understand your concern. We're working to open the Android version of PlugShare to the global community soon. We anticipate it will be available at the beginning of January at the latest. Best Regards,...

Congratulations also! I’m sure you will be even happier once you have driven it the first 1,000km. Sue loves hers more every time she drives it. Only starting tips I can give is don’t be too concerned about the RR (Range Remaining) indicator. It is really a guess-o-meter. The bars on the battery cha...

Just got this email.... Moving forward we will be focusing our efforts on PlugShare. By working on one app w...

Acmotor, re the pack balancing I think you are right and this makes little difference to anything once it gets to these levels.

Just that Kurt has set such a high standard and I WANT the same!!!

Not that it's a competition.....

Yes, love the science lab on wheels continuing projects and that is so great to see happening. As for me I love the design and build phase more. Once that's done I need another project. Having said that I would have kept the old DIY EV but can't really justify registering and insuring 3 vehicles for...

Would need to disagree on that one.... Destroying a nice piece of history by making it “Better” has long been an outstanding argument amongst many of us in that game. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/282/CometView.jpg This was project number 18 Even over restoring is a concern (this one actually wa...

Agree with g4qber... At the ChargePoint bollards the cord is locked in and you get an SMS or email if there is a fault or someone has disconnected the J1772 from your car. So no issue. If you are using the adopter cable on an i-MiEV (later brick style of charger lead) to suit the ChargePoint bollard...

I’ve purchased 3 now and they all were $350 with GST.... You are most likely right and the dealer is just slack. The last one was for friend with a new I - they priced them at other Holden dealers in Adelaide on Monday and the price did vary from $380 to just under $400. So I ordered one for them. T...

This is an observation regarding the changing focus of EV discussion forums around the world and perhaps the demise of some future DIY conversions. There appears to be an understandable shift away from DIY conversions to production vehicles as a result of the recent price reduction of pure plug-in p...

Thanks for that Gabz.

Did he mention any numbers?

Ashley’s office is near where the fast charger is located in Adelaide. Might try and talk to him about it the next time I’m over there.

Useful information – Thanks Kurt. Will put a copy in my service stuff for future reference. Btw, What is the actual DC current resolution (and maybe the lowest DC current that you can measure) on your new toy? Not the paper spec but under a real test. The one I borrow is very average and doesn't com...

Thanks acmotor, that makes sense, I was thinking of the words “recharged to 80 percent capacity in just 30 minutes” and not thinking about what that means in the real world. I guess it should read “full charge rate to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes – then reducing in charge rate over time to comple...

I certainly would not use the words dangerous or unsafe here. Just a comment about being a bit surprised. Yes holds its track well just seems like a bit of body roll? Likewise over the years we have driven extremely unsafe vehicles in high wind gusts and this would not be anywhere in that class. Bruce

Ya 50kw I think. The purpose of today’s exercise was just to try the fast charger and see if the access code still worked plus get a feel for the connector setup. Well do.

Yes I was surprised it nearly went to 100%. I asked the guy and he said it depended on the starting point? Will see how it goes with variuos states of discharge. But I also thought it never went to a full charge - maybe 80%

Had the i-MiEV for the day and would like to say these are VERY poor vehicles in big gusty winds! Can now agree with the motoring reviewers that have made the same comments. I’m sure it’s just a matter of living with it but! No surprise I guess with the tall body and narrow tyres pumped to 38 psi or...

Had the i-MiEV for a day to myself and thought I should test out the DC Fast Charger down the road, This way I’m more familiar with it before my wife uses it as required. As it turns out the Outlander PHEV that is here also parks at this station so I had a good look and spoke to people about it. No ...

I’m glad you are happy with the CRC 2094 solution and it's working for you. My understanding is that all the quality J1772 connector systems (inc Yazaki connectors) meet this self-cleaning standard which is common now. But could be wrong. I can’t really agree with using CRC 2094 in this application ...

I contacted Amphenol and they confirmed that J1772 connectors that use their RADSOK contacts are self-cleaning and would not require anything more than a blowout occasionally. And that spraying contact cleaners is not a good idea – But if needed Dichloropentafluoropropane (HCFC-225) with Carbon Diox...
