ABC Story 10 bucks a litre

what europe uses on standby mode could power africa, we have a long way to go on efficiency, that requires no new power stations at all. Anyone promoting nuclear power should see the many documentaries on chernobyl, especially the orphanages, doctors from the west flying over to do something about t...

I thought kW/km was a readout? Wouldn't electric make seeing the difference easy? I had seen claims of 10% of rolling resistance so about 5% of drag at 80 so 21k instead of 20 better range is possible. They seem to work by reducing hysteresis losses by putting silicon in the rubber. The roll on test...

It takes 3 coal fired power stations to run the U235 enrichment plant for starters....precautionary principals aside it still doesn't add up to much but warheads. Nobody talks about risk with solar panels. did anyone happen to hear about the serious meltdown and leak fukashima had a fortnight ago? N...

I would be interested in some data on the amount saved using low rolling resistance tyres like the ecopia etc vs normal form a real world situation, ev range should be able to be substantially improved if the spiel is real.

I have a recumbent and a motor on the chain so I can use the gears, 250 W in a low gear is great for hill climbing with the shopping and kid on board. Top speed test is for someone with bigger balls and a speedo, its a streamliner. Electric regen is only about 40% efficient anyhow just coast a bit f...

Nevilleh has designed a great amp meter that doesn't require high voltage in the cockpit. He is a bit under the weather atm but check out the thread and for about 99 bucks he will build one but not for a while until he gets better. It is open source and he has the info zipped up here; http://forums....

The code on the drivers side door lock barrel, on the inside is usually the way to get a `new' key cut from code. Sometimes the VIN sent to the factory via a dealer will get the code sent back with a bit of other info such as options built in at the factory, paint codes, origin, etc.

Some "don'ts" for EV building

re. choosing a good donor, I concur. I wish I had been more careful choosing donor/host/roller vehicles, a surprising amount of time and money was used up chasing parts and doing repairs to suspension parts, brakes, wheels, rust, paint, windscreen, etc. and although the price was almost free it wasn...

Pretty impressive result, 440kw must feel pretty amazing. I can imagine the test drivers having a lot of fun with the yet to be perfected torque vectoring software, lots of ironing out no doubt. If only we got to play with that much carbon fibre.

I suspect the extra efficiency comes from driving fewer coils closer to max amperage rather than reduced amperage on all the coils thus more efficiently, + magnetic/eddy losses are minimised in axial flux designs, especially if the rotor and stator are made from non metallic parts like carbon fiber....
