The pack was sized to enable the car to complete a 20min sprint race (about 50km) at high speed with some power in reserve.
I'm yet to find out if it will hold up, but based on the first tests run, my early opinion is that it could be a little light on....but will know soon enough.
Cheers,
Sutho

The car is scheduled to be doing some demonstration laps at the Shannon's National Race Event at Eastern Creek on the Sunday morning of next weekend. We have a well known race driver lined up to drive the car at and set/break the electric lap record at the track. I think the schedule is practice bef...

The racers are usually easier to convert. The racing spectators are the hardest, as they will have to make a conscious effort to understand and embrace the new technology. Racers just look at the lap times and decide if they want to throw a leg over it (or hop in the cockpit). Nice work mate, and I...

Looks (and sounds) great! It's a shame I missed it yesterday. I'll have to make another trip up there sometime and check out Varley at the same time. I didn't even realize they were up that way too. Nothing EV ever happens here in Wollongong ;-) Yes...the video doesn't do it full justice. Still hav...

70mm^2 Shielded Cable
Try a company in the US called Champlain Cables.
I got some of that cable in 50mm2 (AWG 1/0). From memory it cost something like $13 per foot plus freight!

Sounds expensive. Atleast they look wicked!! :) We've never found the pouch cells to heat up that much even at 10C+. The tabs are the most likely to heat, but are fine as long as the connection has enough surface area and is well clamped. We sat on the dyno at full power with the IR guns on the bat...

Those battery enclosures look very expensive. The side plates look machined, but what about the top orange bits? Is the system water cooled/heated or something? Why the need for such precision? I guess if your gonna spend tens of thousands on batteries, might as well spend thousands protecting them...

It would be nice to have an unlimited budget, but that is not the case. In lieu of talking about how it should or could be done, I am putting my (company's) money where my mouth is and doing it.

The vehicle will be fast charged from solar sources to provide true zero emission racing. Impressed by the technology, but exactly how do you plan to fast charge from solar? Unless you know about some cataclysmic explosion from the sun that we don't know about, how do you plan to achieve this? You ...

This power then drives the electric motor. With all these types, they connect the engine to a propulsion propeller or screw through a drive shaft. Inboard boat motors started out with steam engines. It evolved through two-stroke and four-stroke gasoline engines. Thanks. I've seen this type of contr...

A transmission loss of 20% is pretty typical. 15% would be very efficient. Also keep in mind that this is a 31 year old transmission.
We were there for a DeLorean tech day, so didn't spend enough time on the dyno to get to laptop out. Will do this in more detail at a later date.

Running a 370VDC bus. Are you saying that the motor is not producing the torque that I have quoted?
The voltage affects the base speed. EVO motor constants are below. You can use this to work out the peak torque at 450Arms.

Torque figure is from EVO specifications with a motor current of 450Arms. This figure is in line with RMS's calculations and experience. The PM100DXR motor controller calculates motor torque based on motor currents and parameters of the motor. This figure can be viewed in a Watch List while driving,...

Yes....definitely getting more RPM. There are a few parameters that can be adjusted to control field weakening.
I will monitor and fine-tune some of these parameters more when it stops raining here...

We have upgraded the motor controller in our Electric DeLorean from the 300Arms Tritium Wavesculptor to a 450Arms Rinehart Motion Systems (RMS) PM100DXR. You'll be please to know that there has been some price improvements on the RMS inverters too.
