We shouldn't knock the prius. It is partly electric after all. Ok, a bit of a dirty electric, but still better than a hummer ! I have to say that you understand. The prius does show the public's interest in EVs. (I think that is what it shows) Don't worry, in 10 years people will laugh at hybrids. I...

Taffy, your offering is probably one that would have more impact than my 1982 sierra. BTW are you in touch with the guys at www.therevproject.com ? They were talking SAE but now have purchased a lotus elise and going TS cells. Thanks for name dropping hoops.... I think the MX5 will be a real eye ope...

12vinto 36v motor,

Fb, I'm more into putting 36V into a 12V motor !!! If you are talking DC motor then putting 12V into a 36V motor just makes it go slow with less torque. No harm done, unless having less torque means that the motor sits there stalled because it hasn't enough power to turn it's load yet there may be e...

I would'd be seen with one of those stickers for that very reason. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36.gif I am glad there are others who see the irony of it. Something troubles me about this whole carbon trading scheme proposal. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley5.gif The federal Government tell me today that it will result in increased prices for energy and result in across the board price rises. Clutch and Aux Battery Question

Most people lose the clutch. Contact Rod at www.ev-power.com.au he has a mighty boy. The intent of the regulation (in WA at least) is that the aux power 12V must be a battery independent from the traction battery although it can be charged from the traction battery. Rather obvious in a way, so light...

Hey sparky, you are on to it!! Yes, there is more to EVs than oil busting. Truth is though, the thought of using EVs for grid peak power balancing has been suggested by a number of people ever since grid connected inverters came of age, maybe 5 or 10 years ago. www.acpropulsions AC-150 has had grid ...

Dougy,

If you contact Rob Mason (Perth) www.evwa.com.au
or Rob Dilkes (Margret River) www.ev-power.com.au
oops forget the link , you'll have to cut and paste !
They have both been running TS for a year or so.
Reports seem good.

Batteries for HiLux Xtra Cab?

Hi Brett, Welcome on board. http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif 100km in a Hilux (2WD ?) on lead acid is a challenge. As a rough rule of thumb you could work on 20kWh per tonne per 100km. (200Wh per km per tonne) Hilux is 1500kg? in normal use so 30kWh for 100km range. All depending on how...

Nobody said it can't be done. Just that it is not very cleaver to do. The above numbers re energy equations still stand. It is good that you raise these distractions from our electric future so they can be hammered out. Clockwork and elastic band cars work too ! Beware any claim that does not add up...

Lowndsy, You are thinking well, and answered your own question in the last paragraph of that post. As Rob Mason says, just put a few more batteries in ! ???? sorry, I can't see the connection between water cooled and efficiency. Not even by the temperature (resistance) of the copper wire. Tell me if there is something I am missing here. Hey Sparky, All fired up there ! The more we find out technically , the more we all get frustrated with the rate of progress of EVs. I have found that repeated top up charge of SLAs with a charger that goes to 15V and particularly without some form of shunt equalisation at the 12V level will dry out an SLA.(It gasses beyond the RE capacity and ends up with a high ESR) The manufacturer's charge profile for SLA is specified as ~15V...
