"Holden" Volt

Yer cruising load is fine, with regen you'd probably get "unlimited range". Would be perfect for any cars doing the run to canberra this year. I think i read something bout it on another thread.

"Holden" Volt

What size gen would be needed in a range extender trailer? Either for full backup or partial. How long can an electric motor run continuiously?

Any Taswegeans going to the Canberra AGM 2009?

Hi all, Just a quick query to any Taswegeans; My wife & i are planning on heading over for the AGM this year, it'll be our first. We don't have an EV - yet - but thought it would be great to check out a bunch of cars up close & personal. We'll probably just fly over & hire a dirty ICE for the weeken...

new newbie section??

I know exactly what you are talking about TropicalEV, i've felt it myself. A newbie section would be exellent IMO. I remember from my early days of studying TV's & VCR's we used to break down the very complicated circuitry down into basic block diagrams then if necessary some of those blocks could b...

Proton Satria (Kim Ryan)

What i'm really interested to hear Kim is how it performs on highways & up n down hills.
It looks like the Emotor only just fit, what sort of clearance does the motor have between it & the front grill?

Why are you into EV's

I'm mostly interested in own/building an EV to stick it to the fuel companies & to hope to save money - which is why i haven't started on my EV yet but i'm reading hard & learning every day in the meantime.

Performance and cost between DC and AC -EV's

Unfortunately for EV converters, car diffs range from about 2.5:1 to 5:1 usually with a few exceptions (Suzuki Sierra 6.5:1), and the usual EV conversion motors have the same sorts of rpm ranges as ICE, probably as a result. The exception to this I know of is the Azure AC24 which revs to about 10,0...

Performance and cost between DC and AC -EV's

My point being that it would be worthwhile to find common ground and lay out a good guide for conversions of different vehicles for different purposes (not necessarily perfect, just good and safe would be cool). I am a computer programmer and am amazed at what can be achieved via community effort (...

woody is there a reason why u are comparing the AC as direct drive? Are AC systems better suited to direct drive?

EV's & hilly terain/highway driving question.

I've been to watch Targa a couple of times since we've lived in tas. The Quamby Brook leg is just a couple of minutes down the road from us. I'd pay a whole lot more attention to it if they had an EV section to the race. lol. One day maybe, one day. Actually a Toyota Celica hatch back would be prett...

EV's & hilly terain/highway driving question.

highway driving really is a must for me tho, my ultimate aim is to do away with the ICE for all but towing our caravan or long distance driving. Without that capability it would serverly limit its use & therefore defeat the whole reason for going to all this trouble & expense.

EV's & hilly terain/highway driving question.

I'm defenetaly not tied to the 280zx, i chose it because, 1; i've always loved their look, 2; they are a very aerodynamic car & 3; because they are a 6cyc they hopefully are capable of carrying more weight in batteries without any suppension upgrades. We take our 2 dogs with us just about wherever w...

EV's & hilly terain/highway driving question.

Simon, Deloraine is at 237m above sea lvl while our house is at 635m. The bulk of the climb is in the last 2-3klms with rolling hills in between. "What you are looking for is quite do-able. (but not to save money !)" I really wish u hadn't said that AC. lol Am i correct in thinking that the high cos...

EV's & hilly terain/highway driving question.

Hi fellow EVers & wannabes like me, I am very keen to build myself an EV however i have a big concern regarding its suitability to my driving requirements. My wife & i live part way up the Western Tears mountain range up in a very hilly area & do at least 95% of our driving on the highway or country...
