electric 40ft yacht - discussion and advice

I had an old 24ft timber yacht and it used 2kw Electric to push along at 4-5nts . I used an old outboard leg from the 4hp that died. 3 x 12v120ah used to push it along for 2hrs no problem. So 10-20kw motor might do for your build. What voltage were you looking at using? 24-48v might suit your power...

You can contact user "ibruinsma" its his car I just supplied the motor.
I normally rewind induction motors to work with the Curtis AC controllers or industrial VSD but this 132m frame motor is to work with the Tritium controller .

I would be very surprised if an .75kw motor doesn’t move the trike. you will be surprised at how litle NM you need , Get a torque wrench put it on the input of the diff with the wheels on ajust it untill you get a NM reading. Or a 1mt stick and a fish scale http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley36...

He used a 2 pole motor it has very little torque.

How much space do you have ?

Would you use a belt drive or direct couple?

Here is an option to get reverse and small regen. Couple a small 3ph induction AC motor to your existing motor no need for a clutch. A .37-.75kw ($50-$100New)will be more than enough to push the Trike in reverse up to 15kph via your diff , A single phase AC motor controller will cost you around $150...
