Alternative to Headway cells

Pouch cells (the flat ones) are always going to be better in the long run, in my opinion as they offer more energy density on a volume basis. The C rates are going to be a bit higher than cylindrical cells, but the higher the capacity of the cell the lower the C rate will be. But $35 US each for a 2...

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Hi Faz, I have finished the basic shape of the metal tank with bog. What should I do now? Coat it in some kind of epoxy to make it as smooth as possible? Spray putty? It's pretty close, and I'd like to get it done soon so I can send it over east. PM me when you are ready to help out. Cheers, CHRIS

2 BLDC motors 1 controller..?

Well from my experience running two brushed DC motors in parallel is difficult, especially when they might not be perfectly matched. I burned out two motors at Eastern Creek because if this unmatched dilemma. I have conversed with Roman Sunsik from EMRAX motors, and he indicated that while two of hi...

I assume this means the phase wires would be wired in parallel?

Li-Ion Battery-Higher Energy density than LiFePO4

Technically, the Ampere is one Coulomb of charge per second.

For nerd purposes only, a Volt is one Joule per Coulomb, and an Ohm is a Joule second per coulomb squared.

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Hi Faz, Yeah, the chassis was never really optimised for racing, even back in 1985. My next bike will be from a litre sports bike, maybe a CBR1000RR or a GSXR1000. Busa's are great, and a very popular engine to mod, but the chassis was pretty big, perhaps a little too big for a race bike. I will kee...

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Hi Glenn, Yeah, came 2nd in race one and DNF for race two. I cooked a motor in Friday practice because the controller was dialled up too high, and the motors went out of balance. I sourced a new motor in Sydney (thanks to the awesome efforts of some members of the Sydney AEVA!) and installed it that...

Support Voltron at the TTX-GP!

Dear Perth Branch AEVA members, If you were at the Perth branch meeting last night you would have seen my report back on the inaugural, official electric motorcycle race at Eastern Creek Raceway. For those who weren’t, Andy Marsh has put together this 13 minute mini-documentary which sums up the wee...

Guys, voltron did really well, 177 down the straight and the motors stayed cool no problem. Unfortunately when I pushed it to 180 on the next session I cooked one of the motors. Does any one in Sydney have a spare Agni for sale??? cheers Chris 0422191511

OK everybody, Voltron is finally ready in it's latest and hopefully most complete state. Yesterday I got home early so I could put the chain on and go for a quick 'diagnostic fang' http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley2.gif And the motor bolts foul the chain http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smil...

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Took the day off to finish re-re-reassembling the lecky bike. Started with the 12 V fuse box. Since my axillary battery uses the same lithium chemistry it can pump out a hundred amps no trouble, a few fuses are a good idea. http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll53/jonescg/20June2011_001.jpg Got the m...

Kelly AC Induction Controller

Voltages seem a bit low though [:?] Surely if you're going to run AC you would try to get the voltage up around 200-300 V just to keep the currents down?

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Yep http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif However, because of the alignment of the plates not being perfect, there is a bit of resistance in the shaft when I turn it by hand. So I backed off a few bolts and it turns freely. All I need to do is shim these bolts but of course I need to wait un...

It was stepped on the lathe first, so that it fit snugly in place, Then the V was welded and finally smoothed off on the lathe again. Not me, though. I can't build anything to save my life!

As for battery storage, wouldn't nickel-iron batteries be the better option? Sure they are three times more expensive, but last at least 4 times longer than lead acid, and they don't have any really nasty heavy metals. I was doing some back-of-the-envelope calculations for setting my house up with s...

Way ahead of you mate Image Agni Motors kindly sent me three replacement shafts and it was a half-hour job to get the bent one out and the straight one in. The special jig was easy to make myself.

OK so the replacement joining shaft is here! I was going to start putting it all together but I ran out of daylight (winter solstice and all). But I tapped it in and it fits nicely. If there is any mis-alignment it will be a poofteenth of a bee's dick so I'm not too concerned. It's no problem to shi...

Hi Everyone, especially the Perth EV community! Since I have already spend over $17,000 on Voltron, the electric RG250, I am struggling to find the funds to get my bike over to Sydney for the TTX-GP. Crating the bike over, and my return flights are all a bit much for me to afford. However, as mentio...

HOLY sh*tCAKES BATMAN! That is f**king ludicrous. Sorry, but there is no reason for that kind of cost. We ought to hold off until TTX-GP finally begs us to compete. Yeah, always a nice surprise that "week-before-$450-race-fee" thing isn't it? I have the replacement motor shaft sorted out and it's back together, I am just waiting on my joining shaft. Hope it turns up soon! All going to plan I will be there for July 1st, failed pick-ups notwithstanding.
