Re: Total NOOB to convert Classic Mini

Imiev drivetrain is a good one.
Once the controller and charger etc are in there won’t be any engine bay for batteries and you won’t fit a whole imiev pack in the boot though.

I know of a wrecked imiev that went for less than $2k complete

Re: Total NOOB to convert Classic Mini

Hacking the Toyota hybrid drive systems has been on a lot of people’s radar but has met with limited success due to their unusual specs. I have thought about a classic mini myself. There are some brushless DC motors around now at a not crazy price that are wound for low speed operation, mostly used ...

Re: I-MiEVs for sale

No worries.
Realistically I was looking at closer to the end of the year as the most likely time to buy an EV again...but I can’t helo looking because I miss driving an EV so much!
I’m even thinking of buying a Fonzarelli because it will get me back into an EV quicker....

Re: Renault EVs now available in Oz

Hi Greg, But aren't you in Qld not NSW, so what NRMA does is presumably not relevant there as you already have AC charging? Or do you want to drive into NSW? I find the NRMA decision unbelievable. I have spent about 50% of the last 8 years in France (and other European countries). Last year, I was ...

Re: I-MiEVs for sale

I’ve looked at the 2010...I like the 2010 styling and wheels better than 2012, and the keyless start, and the auto windows and leather steering wheel and LED headlights and a few other things. I prefer the 2012 controller and higher regen. That 2010 is silver just like my old one but those dented do...

Re: Fonzarelli X1 - 13 kW motor!

Took the two slower Fonzarellis for a ride today...
8.5 kW hub motors.
Moped model is limited to 55kmh and is pretty gutless.
The unrestricted one goes alright but maxes out at 80.
Good fun, although it doesn’t handle all that well.

Re: Toyota Yaris conversion

Honestly, for running around at 30-50 km per day as a commuter I would not bother with converting today. Get a used imiev or Leaf for the same price or less than converting and have a factory EV...you could even get a good deal on one with higher battery degradation as your range needs aren’t so str...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

Someonenearlier was saying it is possible to fit 47kWh in the imiev battery space...seeing as they will do 120km on 16kWh that would give a range of around 350km and it would certainly be damn close to 300 even with some hills thrown in.... With CHaDeMo standard and the electric highways now coverin...

Re: Renault EVs now available in Oz

I drove both of them a few months ago. Kangoo didn’t feel that fast, but was a good little van. Set up to feel very much like driving a manual, regen felt like engine braking and there was no creep at idle. Zoe felt more like an auto with creep and very little regen until you touch the brakes. I lov...

Offgrid...if you still have it in a few months I might be interested....I’m now up in Brisbane and in the process of changing jobs to one where I don’t need to tow trailers all day...I miss my old imiev like crazy!

How many ev/phev owners and drivers/riders

The only pre 2015 one I can find for sale is a 2011 with a 4kwh battery.......60km range tops in city traffic.
And that's $9k....
Bit of reading up looks like 2013/14 ones have a decent range and are LAMS approved....but none for sale.

Nice.
The NSW list said only pre 2015 Zero are allowed and the early ones have a small battery with a very limited range.

Vectrix...nice.
I'm looking very hard at the options for learner approved electric two wheels right now.
Vectrix plus mods looks like the best option although not cheap.
Wish the Zero was LAMS legal. I'd find the money somehow!

I was lucky enough o have a short drive in this machine a few days ago.
It was the first DC car I've driven. Also the first with a transmission.
It's an awesome little rig!
You've done a top job mate, full marks!

iMiEV - What to do with a write off

Hi. Yes we did in the end get 8000 for it and it was sold to someone who was getting it repaired at mate's rates and with a few cost cuts like beating out the dented tailgate skin and skimming with filler rather than a new tailgate, and I gave him a slightly damaged but cheaply repairable bumper for...

I've been researching electric garden tools for a few months....the Stihl and Husky stuff looks nice but high voltage ego gear has grunt. Seriously thinking of getting an ego mower.
