Battery charging problem

Battery update I fitted a new set of batteries. They charge the way they should, voltage go up during charging and rests the Curtis fuel gauge when charged and the current drops to below 5 amps when charged. All is good again and it drives much better now, but that is a combination of the motor over...

Battery charging problem

Just did a battery SG test, guess what? I found 5 sick cells, would not lift the Hydrometer out of the red zone. 1 battery had 3 sick cells and another 2 batteries had 1 sick cell each. So now that I have evidence of faulty batteries, I should now get warranty, but probably only on the 3 sick batter...

Battery charging problem

Battery update Did a range test yesterday/last night, only travelled 40kms before fuel gauge started flashing red, nearly empty. Use to get at least 60kms to that state of discharge in the past. Under load I can drop the pack voltage below 60v now. Will do another voltage/SG/load test at the weekend...

Matt
They used the capacity test, applied 110amps (50% battery capacity)for 15 sec, voltage stayed steady above 5.5v, as per Crown batteries test procedures.

Battery charging problem

Further to my battery problem. Had the batteries tested, voltage was ok, SG was ok, load test was ok, so as far as the battery supplier was concerned there is nothing wrong with the batteries. I have not noticed any drop in performance so maybe they are ok. But they still had no answer and really ar...

DC motor wanted

Just burnt out my Sherpa drive motor this afternoon, has any one got a 72V dc series motor lying around that they don't want any more?

Battery code

Thanks for that info.

Very interesting, considering I bought these batteries in October 2009 a month before the date stamp.

Battery code

My Crown batteries have K 9 marked on the top of the battery near the + terminal, I am guessing it is a date mark of some sort. Does anyone know for sure and what date it indicates.

Thanks

QUT electric Bike

Giles

The bike was done under the old system, pre engineer approval, when QT did it them selves, in a time when EV conversions were a rarity.

Battery charging problem

Peter This is my 3 set of batteries in this vehicle. They are Crown 225 (6v 225ah wet lead acid), they are 11 months old and have travelled 4000kms. The charger is a Woods Dialomatic, it is not an automatic style charger, it is user adjutable from 6 to 72 volt. I have used this charger on the last 2...

Battery charging problem

I run 12 of 220ah, 6volt, wet lead acid batteries in series to power my Sherpa. Of late I have noticed a problem during charging. Normal operation, I connect the Woods Dilomatic charger to the batteries and the mains. Battery current goes upto 20 amps and slowly comes down to under 5 amps. The volta...

Motorbike conversion

If you follow the rules, you can convert/register an electric motor bike in QLD.

QUT converted one a few years ago, not sure if it is still registered.

If you look under the electric bike section in the main forum you will see info on it.

Don

I was going to suggest "How to wire an EV conversion", basic circuit diagrams for connecting up batteries, motors, controllers and any aux equipment required.

I could do a basic dc system, brush motor and chopper controller. Ie what the Sherpa is.

Battery charger wanted

My 1990 vintage Woods dialomatic charger is starting to play up. Does any one have a suitable charger for a 72 volt 220ah wet lead acid pack, that they don't want anymore?
Open to all offers and suggestions.

Thanks

Preparing batteries fo winter

What do most people do about preparing batteries for winter?
In QLD it does not really get that cold on the coast to affect the batteries too much, but down south, there must be some issues.

Use 2 sets of Lithium Batteries - distance solved

Yes a generator on the other wheels is a suggestion I regularly get from people when ever I talk about or display my Sherpa. Even when I try to explain it to them they still don't understand.

Flooded lead acid question

Yes the sherpa weighs 850 kg with 360kg of batteries, GVM is only 950kg. The Sherpa is only a small 2 door vehicle, it only had a 600cc engine originally. The watering systems use replacement vent cap with a float valve built into it, when the first cell is full the float closes and the water moves ...
