Re: FS: NISSAN SILVIA S13 1990

The Concessions 4 classics rego is being updated from pre 1990 to a rolling 30 year minimum age from 1 January 2025. So 1989 or 1990 won't matter in a couple of weeks time, up to 1995 will be fine. Doesn't solve your space issue but might make it more attractive for someone to buy as a non-daily ...

I had a police ute apparently try to change lanes onto me. Not sure if it was deliberate or just fatigue.

The ABC article actually seems quite balanced once you go beyond the headlines. It says it is not an issue and sometimes it is OK to waste some solar. As will be confirmed by many people who have oversized their home installs.

Re: Atto 3 tinting, protection etc.

For reference I didn't get anything from dealers, but this is what it cost from other sources
Tinting - 3M ceramic ZR including the sun roof was $550
Tow bar (EV Stealth), $750, self fitted, I think it was about $500 more to get fitted.
Floor mats, $80 for rubbertree carpet mats from gumtree.

Re: Is plugging-in your PHEV worth it ?

Why people can't be bothered plugging in is odd behaviour.

I think the studies showing PHEVs not being plugged in were from Europe where there were big incentives to buy PHEVs so they may have been sold to people that didn't even want a PHEV. A fair contribution also from fleet vehicles ...

Yes, that is nonsense, the best PHEVs just have a single speed reduction gear just like full EVs.

I got the high voltage warning light on my i-MiEV after blowing the fuse for the taillights. Doesn't make any sense but I was glad it was an easy fix.

Nice,
When I was commuting on the freeway south I think I averaged about 30kph in the mornings and 90 after 6pm coming home. Would at least get good range on one leg. The i-MiEV used to arrive at work with more range on the guessometer than leaving home.

free spare wheel for i-MiEV (now gone)

Cleaning up at my mother's house today, discovered the space saver spare wheel to suit an i-MiEV. T115/70 D14.
If anyone has a use for it we are happy to give it away.

This was kept in the garage to be fetched if needed to avoid towing rather than carried in the car. Very dusty.

I'm involved with Motorkhana in WA. They are attempting to prepare to allow EVs enter but it is pretty difficult with Motorsport Australia.
Progress so far we've now been advised street legal EVs no longer need to be logbooked.
Still not much prospect of custom/modified EVs being allowed to enter.
I ...

I've had the opposite problem, truck coming the other way getting off the bitumen when I thought there was plenty of room for both of us, and throwing up a rock to crack my windscreen. Next time I'll make sure I get off the bitumen early.

You could even say the consumer has little choice in it because that's all is on offer.

Unfortunately I don't think it would be fixed by providing more choice. If the small cars that are available sold better, more options would be brought in.
I think there is potentially an issue with EVs ...

OZ DIY have prices up ($12,900 for 80km range). But still says "coming soon in Mid 2023" . Probably worth calling up and talking to them.

I think for most people an extra 100gm of battery would be more effective than regen.
I do have a magic pie motor sitting around that seems to do regen according to the instructions, but have never bothered setting it up. That is a rear, so wouldn't be ideal for braking either.

I saw a lot of reports of 12V battery issues on these when they were released. Agree it sounds like nonsense that it only charges from the ICE. I do get the distinct impression Mitsubishi Australia would prefer they didn't have to sell EVs and PHEVs.

Re: Advice on manufacturers & battery quality over time

Both the cars you mention are plug in hybrids. Very unlikely to be LiFePO4 as there tends to be limited space, and LiFePO4 batteries don't perform as well, which is an issue running a big car from a small battery.

Battery life is not a strong point of plug in hybrids, as the battery is small it ...

What have I been missing then...

Not sure what the problem with enforcement is. I think it is just a roadworthiness requirement, so if someone is booked they can put a legal muffler on, go over the pits, then swap it back again. Some places in europe have noise cameras. Some have just banned ...

Re: Play IT LOUD RULZ 2025

I can't recall seeing a Harley with a legal muffler since the police stopped using them. There is obviously an issue with enforcement, but the the loud ones are illegal, not mandated.
The ADR requirement for EVs is around 50dB (equivalent to a quiet fridge) so if implemented well will disappoint ...

Re: Play IT LOUD RULZ 2025

I'm a bit disturbed how much vocal support for the rule there is from EV owners, apparently not from concern for blind people, but in hope that the noise will get all the pedestrians out of their way.
