Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

Can someone validate this : My string generate 8.3 A at 99 V, a perfect resistor would be 12 Ohm. But my resistor is not perfect, I put one of 10 Ohm => will the voltage be : V = 10 x 8.3 = 83 V ? I suppose no, both voltage and current will drop.. but where ? That one is easiest to solve graphicall...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

That would mean that to stay within 90% of efficiency we can't go further then 10% of the perfect resistance. To help with that, instead of using resistances in a 1:2:3 ratio, perhaps use a 1:2:4 ratio instead. As it is now, you have two ways of choosing 9 ohms, 3+6+0 or 0+0+9. If you used 2.6, 5.2...

Re: Inverters in parallel to power a house

Yes, wife hit up a 2000 watt chip cooker and I would say that 2 fridges and 2 freezers were drawing at the same time! The circuit breaker is 100 amps DC. Not using AC breaker for my solar standalone. Have a new 4000 watt latronics 24 volt inverter under my feet. Plan is to swap it out with the 3kw ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I was watching the spreadsheet and, i can see that efficiency is linearly depending on the distance of the Ohm resistor vs perfect resistor. (Which is obvious by the formulae used..) That would mean that to stay within 90% of efficiency we can't go further then 10% of the perfect resistance. Ok i've...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

Cute, and workable, as long as you have enough DC rated SSRs or contactors to do all the switching, and a suitable small computer to control it all. https://i.ibb.co/JRtzdQY/2020-04-03-164320.png Seems 3 SSR are enough, current will take the path of least resistance no ? All closed => 0 Ohm A Open,...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

Question : If the panel at 1000W/m2 irradiance is connected to the perfect resistor that is at max power point (that is 3.5 Ohm and should provide 315W) .. will it provide the intended voltage and current (33V and 9.5 amp) ? Yes. Sweet .. ! Super sweet. I could connect one resistor, starting with t...

Do those devices already exist ? Yes, they do. They are called [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_c....the resistive load. Hello, The idea was to have the MPPT0 in the Pip and then an other MPPT1, both connected to the batteries. A SSR would disconnect MPPT1 output from the batteries to connec...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

The biggest problem with SBMS0 and DMPPT is that your panels got to be wired in a special way, you need a 1 panel string, a 2 panel strings, a 4 panels string ... a 8 panels string.. cause the DMPPT will "connect" those strings according to the resistive elements that are connected .. and that are ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

The only way power can be "lost" in your example is if you had a source that was say 33 V and had the potential of providing 100 A. Then by loading that source with 7 Ω you are wasting 95.3% of that potential, so "losing" potential power in that sense. Yes that what i meant, cause each second MPPT ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I think you are missing the fact an MPPT controller needs to see a battery voltage so it can determine the voltage/current that is the optimum output from the input it sees. This is where the Electrodacus MPPT unit comes in, it will change what ever is coming in to a useable output designed for hea...

Ok, so that's rated for V = √(P·R) = √(2000 · 7) = 118 V. Perhaps it's designed for 120 VAC. Hellooo, For what i've read, a resistor got no working "voltage"... it got 2 parameters, internal resistance and Max power output it can accept, more then this power.. it blow out. (with perhaps a tolerance...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

It seems to me that an off-the-shelf MPPT solar charge controller would work. It expects to be charging a battery, but instead you connect the resistive element. It seems to me that as long as the resistance of the element is low enough to take maximum power at maximum insolation ("sun power"), thi...

Is there a device able to transform whatever Voltage x Amp (max 140V, max 40 Amp) to a linear Voltage x Amp .. ? In short, a DC to DC convertor with variable input and variable output, output just have to be linear, this line will depend on the resistance of the element. In this example, we got some...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

The method I described is not the most efficient, but it is waste solar anyway so what does it matter? It does work because I've used it on a number houseboats and off grid systems. For the parallel connected 12v PWM controlled set ups, we use a 24v element, not efficient but a high level of over v...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

It depends what voltage you bring down from the solar to the MPPT controller. If it is up around the 140vdc mark you can switch that into an existing 240vac or what ever voltage element you have, as long as it's above the open circuit voltage of the solar raw feed to the MPPT controller. If you bri...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I have connected the 2 existing 4800w elements in series. This gives a total of 2400w load. The reason I did this is because 4800w for 1 appliance is a bit much for 2 x 4048V inverters. There would only be 3200w left out of the 8000w total available. Yes on the ac side. The modification to the HWS ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I would more likely use the direct solar feed to the heater element loads. By diverting some of the solar once the end of bulk charging is reached the solar current to the battery is reduced stopping the "bounce" excessive solar can cause because the battery voltage jumps up suddenly rather than a ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I would not be running 48v for lighting even with the loss in the inverters 230v led lighting is much more efficient. I have compared 12v led lighting to 230v and I can light a whole room brightly with two 10 watt 230v down lights I could use 40 watts of 12v and not get it that bright I have 48v DC...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I strongly don't recommend connecting 7.2 kW of panels to an inverter (any brand or model) that is rated for 4 kW of PV. I know it will only use what it needs in theory, but the Solar Charge Controllers assume rated panel power (or a little higher), and can overshoot and undershoot quite badly with...

Re: Do grid tie inverter have "NO LOAD CONSUMPTION"

My question might be a little stupid, but learning about inverters, I discovered that off grid inverter would have a quite high "NO LOAD CONSUMPTION". Some have 25W, 50W when on standby mode, and some up to 192W (PV3000-MPK from MUST-SOLAR° So I wonder if grid tie inverter would have such kind of c...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

Welcome to the forum. I don't think that this will end up being practical. 48 VDC is difficult to switch and fuse, and most appliances (such as a phone charger) will come with a 220 VAC plug anyway. Why not use the already existing sockets for these? Yes, it's a little more inefficient to convert f...
