Re: PIP-5048 & SCC with BMS question

Hi, My question is: what will happen if/when the BMS shuts down? Will a rush of current from the SCC damage the PIP? Will there be a rush of current, or will the SCC stop because there's no battery? Will they both think there's a battery because there's solar? I am able to answer part of the questio...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hi, Thanks @dRdoS7, tbh, if I was going to all that trouble, I would probably use the money to replace the MPP's with something better, even if I ended up with the same issue the new inverters would have to have some verbose logging built in. Probably won't have that problem. I had my switchboard di...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hi, If only there was some kind of monitoring device I could plug in to help me diagnose it. The whole house runs off the inverters so in the blackout the file server loses power, the wifi lightbulbs come on and the oven clock loses the time. I put the NBN modem on a UPS which helps with that. I thi...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Hi, If MPP Solar were more responsive I could work with them to get an inverter to work with NiFe/NiCad. I think if I had a victron unit they might have worked with me but they are just so way more expensive. Also there seems to be no SCC unit capable of charging NiFe/NiCad as the voltage range is 4...

Cost of running a PIP-5048MG on grid

Hi, Since I've been able to run the whole house from the PIP5048MG, I found an intermittent 0.006kWh import. I've been seeing it on & off since April, took me a while to get around to tracking it down. I turned off each RCBO, and watched the import/export meter. No change. Turns out it's the inverte...

Re: PIP-5048MG Batteryless operation

Hi, I use the generator start relay to activate my neutral earth when in inverter mode could you do the same to disconnect in bypass mode. The more advanced way would be to use another micro to ask the buss volts and disconnect if too high. I had a moment, or two of lyxdexianess! Even read it twice....

Re: PIP-5048MG Batteryless operation

Hi, look in the MG / GK topic. There is updated firmware which addresses this issue. Not sure any of them fix the 08 Error. I was hoping for MPPSolar to send me a FW update. They haven't replied to my last 2 emails. I have bought an LD03-16B12 (other bits I'll buy/scrounge shortly) so that I can bui...

Re: Caravan upgrade to 24v or 48v

Hi, When you read the victron specs its a high frequency inverter like the MPP Solar and this note about output "Increases linearly from 4800 W at 46 VDC to 5300 W at 52 VDC" so it is not 6000 watts . I would also like to know if the solar is isolated from the battery. Yeah, like all Victron stuff, ...

Re: Caravan upgrade to 24v or 48v

Hi, 48v is a good way to go now that converters are cheaply available Victron are good units but expensive I thought so too, until I saw this while looking for a PIP5048MG replacement: https://askwise.com.au/product/inverter-rs-48-6000-230v-smart-solar/ https://www.victronenergy.com/inverters/invert...

Re: Caravan upgrade to 24v or 48v

Hi, I have no experience with 24V or 48V in a caravan (have 2 x 100Ah Solarking drop-ins), but I don't see any advantages, as you already have a working 12V system. 12V gear is easier to find, especially when away from home. Another advantage of your current 12V, is if one or more cells fail (pretty...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hi, Has anyone had issues with these inverters reverting to AGM, it's happened to mine 3-4 times in as many months. I have LTO and set to User with a max voltage of 55.5v, when it reverts to AGM the max voltage goes to 56.2v and it trips my batteries on a sunny day. Very bloody annoying. Long shot, ...

Hi, I turned off the battery bank, and ran the inverter in "Batteryless" mode while we went away for a week. We returned today, and I found the inverter had an Error #8, and was in fault mode. Not very handy. At least the inverter bypass I have made sure we had power for the freezer, otherwise it co...

MPP SOLAR PIP-8048MAX

Hi,

I noticed that they've added a slightly larger MAX 48V to the range.

https://www.mppsolar.com/v3/pip-max/

Wonder if they have corrected any of the bugs? Or, introduced new ones.

I've conversed with MPP Solar about the #08 Error of the MG, and haven't seen any action from them.

The faults with the MAX seem even worse.

Re: MPP SOLAR PIP-7248MAX

Hi, No, this is where the PV power goes to zero until the next day or the SCC is reset. There are also the "dips" where the power goes to zero for a short time (minutes), but then recovers as if nothing had happened. OK. Haven't read of that bug. Don't think I'd want that inverter. Do the "dips" occ...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Thanks, but I don't know what this means, do you mean just remotely switching off the grid connection to the inverters with a big relay, I don't think I like that idea and it's definitely not something I would be doing myself? It doesn't require a big relay. It wouldn't be remote, put a contactor i...
