600Kg cars! Note the proliferation of "Tonka toys" on city roads. Many people are scared (rightly so in some cases) of driving smaller cars in amongst the 'trucks' being driven by unqualified 4WD Rec. vehicles. I have hit this a few times during discussions (with non-EVers) over EV perception. True...

I agree acmotor - plus he isnt including the economic and envoronmental costs of upkeep on a complex hybrid car. IMO hybrids are a waste of time and resources. IMO if you wanted for the short term make a cleaner car that does 2.5l/100k then make a simple lightweight (~600kg) one with a top speed of ...

Hi - thx drowe. I will look into it - however removing rear seats isnt an option as the car is to ferry kids around and since the conversion object is a pug 205gti i dont think i've got the weight capacity to take on lead acids... especially as it will have to be a gearbox in conversion. From my gue...

Hi all :) Interesting reading. Do you think it would be wise or perhaps highly helpful to try and make a list of compatable controllers / motors / batteries for people without the experience in the area to work with? (and please forgive me if i have missed one already existing) The goal of furtherin...

Hi all http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley1.gif Just wondering if anyone has current pricing on ts batteries - a couple of months ago in a post here i worked out 45 160ah TS were about ~11k (this should work out nice for a 205gti conversion) There will probably be a bulk order of Thunder-Sky ba...

yeah - i wondered about it for mobile applications and came to the same conclusion as you - too dangerous. Even having lots of little ones where it would be easier to hold them together (mechanical strength of the spindle compared to weight) in case of an accident would be tricky. If in case of fail...

Project Better Place No3 is Australia!

A great idea, but it requires that all battery packs are standardised, or of one of a few different standards, rather than the hodge-podge array of types we have now. every vehicle is different, effectively. This'd be easier to achieve once EVs are mass produced, of course. Yes I agree, standards w...

Tesla Motors just recently laid off 21% of its work force, how the hell would they meet demand for something like this now? Mind you when the credit crunch really hits most Aussies wont have access to the 60K needed to buy it. Thats not good news. btw - 60k U.S. - so depending upon which week somew...

Really !   Why so - is it ADR's that would stop it? Or just that they wont be able to make enough to satisfy demand.

thx ac

re:2 i did think of the first part of rear brake travel for a bike but thought it could be too hard to get a balance with. As it is often rear brakes on bikes quite hard to judge since you are using a big boot and have anything up to 0% of weight on the tyre.

I guess if u want to sell cars, get someone who can style and it will sell even with other draw backs. Or because of the other drawbacks even? Point to keep in mind perhaps is that when talking of standards you need to consider what the body is made of. i mean with a carbon fibre chassis / shell the traction circuit is obviously going to be isolated anyway. btw - this sounds the best option - i mean there are physically many more hurdles t...

Does this sum it up? So with leakage detector on both systems isolated pluses - temporary short wont start fire as nowhere to complete circuit isolated -ive - short could go unnoticed on 1 or other leads if the leakage detector fails, then any unshielded connector could kill grounded pluses - half v...

Electrically, a single point insulation failure would be almost identical to a deliberate ground link at some arbitrary potential. So, dangerous perhaps because it's unknown. Hence the need for a leakage detector. makes sense to me. although the idea of halving the voltage seems good too (although ...
