Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar

All I need to do now is create a task to extract that info from the Fronius inverter and generate the messages. I don't know your programming skills. Another option that might be simpler is to use the open source Home Automation Platform OpenHAB which has support for Fronius inverters and MQTT. htt...

Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar

I've got a Zoe on the way and Solar on the house so I've ordered an OpenEVSE kit. I'm still learning about it, but one way to control the charging is to send it periodic MQTT messages specifying the amount of excess solar. It then automatically adjusts the charge rate (6A minimum) to suit. All I ne...

Re: J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar

It might not be too hard to make a DC current reading device to produce signals that the Zappi is expecting, to balance the battery power to zero. But I think I'd want more control than merely balancing. You want to charge the house battery as well, and the urgency of charging the EV could vary fro...

J1772 EV charger that restricts charge to excess production from solar

I live off-grid and have a Tesla Model X that I bought nearly a year ago. Manually charging the EV using my off-grid power system is a bit hair raising as my EV can suck my off-grid battery dry within a few hours if left to its own devices! What I needed was an EV charger that would only take excess...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Regardless of the volatege that I set the invertor to stop charging at, the BMS of the battery kicks in and stops the charge displaying a "cell over max voltage" error. After reading on this forum all the info I was able to assimilate, I now believe that the problem is related to the &quo...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on how well the PIP4048 handles the battery being disconnected from it with the solar panels still connected and generating power? In theory, if the SCC has been well designed it should not be a problem but... The reason for my question is that I will be u...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

If you want to make a cheap accurate SOC meter and have some electronic skills you can use the TI ADS1115 16 bit Analog to Digital converter. Here is the circuit for a simple battery monitor using this chip https://github.com/simat/BatteryMonitor/blob/master/BMSsingle.jpg?raw=true There is a daughte...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi Simon, it is considered to be in absorb stage when it is within 0.5 volts of the absorb voltage setting. You can read more details of the absorb to float conditions here: http://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4332&p=64095#p64095 Scroll down to the green heading "Charge Term...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

But it's hard to tell what's going on without seeing the currents as reported by the PIP in the QPIGS command, and preferably also the charge stage in the undocumented Q1 command , field QQ (to tell when it really went to float). How hard would it be to provide that data? I have now added logging o...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

I note that the currents have a resolution of 0.1 A, so these must be your BMS currents. Are the voltages from the BMS or from the QPIGS command of the PIP? The current is detected by current sense resistors on the Chinese BMS board. These boards use the TI BQ76940 chip to do the cell voltage and c...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

About a week ago I got a 2p15s LFP battery connected up to a new PIP4048MS using this BMS as a frontend to my BMS software running on a Raspberry Pi. I am not using the battery disconnect function of the BMS until I have upgraded the MOSFETs to higher spec ones. The first day I tried to charge the b...

Re: PIP-4048MS inverter

Hi, I am really impressed by the amount of excellent information in this thread and especially at all the work done by Coulomb and Weber. This is forums at their best! Thank you! I have been asked by a friend of a friend who I designed and installed an LFP based off grid system for in 2013 if I woul...
