Win a model s

Appolo 13 a bit too risky? How about a visit to the Titanic? It would seem that tourist dives may soon be a reality, but at a price similar to the cash winnings. We've all seen James Cameron's film, so the real thing out a 7 inch window will be a bit of an anti-climax; Better to stick with a shiny n...

Misc iMiev questions

Also can't find a thread for this - but who all is using an ODBlink LX or MX with CanIon? I'm trying to figure out why I'm still having annoying problems with having to re-pair the Bluetooth connection virtually every day. I've now tried it with 5 different Android devices (phones and tablets) acro...

Voltron-Evo; jonescg's new electric race bike

With respect to I-Miev slow initial acceleration. I suspect that all of it's programmed. Makes sense to prevent parking lot collisions, but is a trap for the unwary on the road. I put this down to Mitsubishi being too cheap to install proximity (parking) sensors that could have triggered this behavi...

Lithium Sulfur Batteries

A while back Winston was promising a LiS battery and went as far as publishing some performace figures which looked very good. It seems that the issues have involved conductivity (Sulfur is an insulator) and longevity. The rotten cycle life problem is slowly being solved by companies like PolyPlus ,...

30k km Service

Tyres- My Tyre shop couldn't get the Continentals and it appears that they have stopped making the 155/60 R15 (front size), so I went for Kumho, which drive nicely. They are significantly quieter than the original tyre and steer better. The odometer is about 30,000 km - bucketing down now so I won't...

I collect mine on Wednesday but as yet haven't got a 15 amp power outlet to charge from only a 10 amp. Is it ok to make up a adaptor, 15amp to 10amp to plug in with if there is nothing else on that circuit. Consider the double GPO at the end of the circuit. It is possible to plug two bar heaters in...

Voltron-Evo; jonescg's new electric race bike

Hi Chris, I was thinking of a direct parallel connection (same open circuit voltage?) with a controlled power supply in series with the source batter, say 0-30V/0-20Amps to supply the differential needed to make electrons flow to the receiver battery. 20 amps makes it a 1/2 hour flat to full charge ...

I have an idea! (they don't come along very often)

Voltron now has two batteries, although the big one is heavier than useful for racing, but may be useful as a quick charger along the lines of Rob Mason's battery powered booster that allows charge to flow from one battery to another.

The (no-so-squeezy) i-miev is definitely a far better drive than any of the ICE cars I use regularly. The only reason I keep the VZ station wagon is that it is good for trips and carrying big and heavy stuff, sort of like a covered ute. I think that Tuarn was considering the idea of frauding the CHA...

I was concerned about the lifting weight, 50kg is a bit heavy to manhandle in and out. My thought was two (or 3) battery boxes with Anderson connectors, docking into a frame. A couple of bags of cement would about do it for weight. It would make sense to use the child restraints, possibly in the for...

New to the forum & new I-miev

Hi Kurt,
A solution may be to make the battery from 160 or 200AH cells, these are more compatible with the i-miev's size and carrying capacity. They won't mind being paralleled, although some fuses may be wise between the strings.

Cheers

Mazda Super Capacitor Regen

I have been wondering about this for a while... Here's a link: SAE link to Mazda regen brakes I had my suspicions beforehand, but this confirmed them. It's a 12V system that uses the alternator, a capacitor and charge converter. The specs are along the line of: 12V, 50 Amps of energy processing capa...

It is common in China.

The Elcon battery chargers have been sold this way. I think that this allows the maker to use an agent with good english skills.

Does the cable include the data/control wires?

Not a bad find, Richo! (may negate the following:) Discharge: A big high value resistor permanently across the caps? Say a trickle current of 1mA, so will discharge a 1000uF/600V cap in 10 minutes or so. Or use the motor controller to discharge the cap into the motor windings really quickly. For man...

I guess if he talks long enough some of it will make sense. Perhaps he wants us to have EVs so he can sell more coal? The worrying thing about "sir Clive" is that he is so inconsistent. Just when you think you've got him neatly boxed next to Barnaby Joyce, he comes out with something that makes utter sense and is in the national interest. [Edit + following] Fuel cells ~ fool cells! The autonews story says...

There are some interesting things are happening in China - World's 7 Greenest vehicles Almost 30,000,000 e-bikes will be sold in China this year alone, and 200 million in total, an astounding number, so the car of the future may have 2 wheels, at least in China. Leaf owner Stole Power got Arrested Jailed

It may be a bit if a reach for many town councils, but perhaps an Honour system would be practical. The EV'er sends them some money each time a power point is used for a charge. The council will get some information as to how many EVs are around and whether it would be worthwhile formalising a charg...
