Re: Inverter (mains backup, no solar) help and recommendations

So that would have ruled out pensioners and those low income earners that didn't travel far enough or do enough km to qualify, it's targeted at the daily driver etc.
How much did it cost to lease an ICE? Somehow someone has to pay total price of the vehicle, EV or ICE.

Its just body work, any body shop should have no problem doing it.
I notice most cars don't have those plastic strips along the sides and doors, I find they keeps the shopping trolleys from contacting the paint work.

Re: PIP-5048GE/GK/MG/MGX/MAX inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I think you should at least have a spare or backup inverter if you are offgrid, when something happens you can plug in another one and be up and running again within 10 minuets, or have it wired in and switch another one on with almost no downtime. I think the inverters built between 2015 and 2017 m...

One of my home made inverters will not work with the MG charger, the charger just shows fault even though the inverter is running fine,
Hi Pete, We will probably find out why, one day, good that the latronics is working.

Re: Good news for New Years Day

I do know a few people in these areas, some have battery backup with solar, but been bad weather and no grid for some time there there is still a need for some generator time to help the batteries out. About time people got together and forced the removal of these large trees that are close to house...

Re: Lies - Damn Lies and Range

In the winter I did notice a very slight drop in battery voltage when cold, this is for 48v LiFePO4 battery powering the house, I wouldn't notice any change in capacity due to only using 33% or so. The cost of Buying a battery range extender pretty much kills it, there are a few circumstances where ...

Re: Lies - Damn Lies and Range

I was thinking before, it has often been said its more efficient to tow a large trailer with a more powerful vehicle, v8 vs 4 cylinder, depending on the conditions and place, city or highway. Is this still the case with a BEV? If a larger more powerful motor and battery combination has less losses i...

I'm in a farming area, mostly small farms a few 100 acres, a lot of them have solar installed and quite a few use solar bore pumps for filling water trough or tanks instead of diesel powered pumps. "Citizen science - please record your annual mileage!" Shouldn't this be in Metric? ;) Previous vehicle 1990 Magna now retired has a total of 183 000 km, not worn out, just deteriorates with age, I expect newer vehicles will be much worse. Mostly did trips to school and work, moved out her...

Re: Dealing with deteriorating roads

The trick is to move more stuff on rail and less stuff by road. Not all or none. Considering the Alice springs to Darwin railway (23 ton per axle) cost under $1 M per km, it's at least 3 times cheaper than a rural highway ($3.8M per lane km). https://www.bitre.gov.au/sites/default/files/rr148.pdf T...

When I was removing fishplates on light rail, you could always see how much the rail had been moving at the joint. The work involved with building a heavy goods line in enormous, far more than building a proper 6 layer concrete 4 lane hwy per km. Those bypass rail lines put in place to divert the ra...

Or just keep using Li-NMC and accept that the risk of a fire is 20 to 80 times lower than an ICE vehicle. The issue here is the media whipping up hysteria about any battery with lithium in its chemical compound. The general public is now so sensitised to the word lithium that they are scared of any...

Can't help but notice how EV owners travel further and more often than ICE owners, numerous reasons but the end result would be more road use and wear with growing EV adoption.
Currently only travel once every 2 weeks, will have to check.
