Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

I could not however reset an air bag fault code (which arose more recently when the 12V battery dropped a cell) with the i909. Thanks for posting. Yes that is exactly what I wish to do and can't because the i909 does not connect to this section of the car. Sad :( Mitsi can reset it no problem but i...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

On a side note and as the question has come up in this thread, using the MUT3, it is possible to re-program the IDs of the CMU (cell module unit) BMS PCBs using: he correct BMS boards and fit them ~2weeks time). I hope this of use/interest to anyone in the future. An other side note: I bought an iC...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

No shipping out of the USA but maybe something could be arranged. I have a niece and nephew in who live in New York ( 1.5 hrs by car from Bensalem) , they probably could organise transport to Australia. But it would cost a small fortune and a few headaches to do that. A set of new cells might be no...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

The terminals are welded on - would be a big and difficult job to pull them apart and re-fit in the iMiEV, but yes they are the same basic cell as the 93 Ah cells on offer by LiYuan. Are these the cells you are referring to? COMPLETE BMW OEM 32kWh EV ACTIVE-E BATTERY 96S Battery Hookup Regular pric...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Did you disconnect the diode [ edit: and resistor ] from the aftermarket harness? That should be provided only by the charger itself now, via the equivalent of the blue wire. I wonder where the 2.7 kΩ resistor is on a 2012. It should be somewhere near the J1772 inlet. [ Edit: oops, that's separate ...

I'm in Perth with an iMiev. Range down to about 85km. I'd be willing to pitch in for the trial pack.
How keen are you?
Sent you a PM.

A little concrete mixing to end the day.
Well done.

But with that size slab you only earned a stubby, not a slab .

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Edit: have not figured out yet how to post a document or image... I have a post about that here . BTW, I meant to say that since you have all 5 pins in your J1772 inlet, and you have a 2015 charger, you definitely should be able to get the pilot signal control. It's a matter of what mods were done ...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Ah thanks for the photos. Yes agreed. With my 2010 I-Miev it didn't have pilot signal pin fitted. So I did it myself a bit sneakily. I purchased the J1772 to 15A adaptor from Gelco and used the spare pin in the connector and added into my J1772 car harness with a 1N4148 diode and 882 Ohm resistor. ...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Is that visible on your image? To answer your "What is this?" question, I'll hazard that it's connector G12 (see below). It might also incorporate "RESISTOR" (the 2.7 kΩ resistor that is supposed to be in or near the inlet). G12 has a connection to earth, as does the resistor. I wonder if one of th...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

2011 onwards I-Miev have a separate control box mounted on top of the AC charger. I suspect that does the PWM charge current control and in turn sends commands to the AC charger below it. I'm unaware of the protocol between that box and AC charger. It may well be CAN BUS. as coulomb states , the do...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Sadly I now think it may be impossible or very difficult to modify my car so it can use a variable or reduced Amp EVSE. Yes, it looks that way, unless you can find a cheap 2011 or later charger/DC-DC unit. I did some more digging but did not unearth any useful nuggets. Then you're not living up to ...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Edit: the pilot processing hardware may be missing from the 2011 chargers, but then how can that mob offer a harness that fixes the problem? Re: Was re: Any i-MiEV's for sale?

In reverse it is open both methods. That's the most important thing. If I measure this correctly , that is no where near the 2740 Ω as per diagram. I cropped off other parts of the circuit, and the circuit is powered down, so that will affect the measured resistance. Your diode seems fine from that...

Re: jonescg's home battery storage system

Some preliminary testing before I start to assemble the battery enclosure. 20200503_113657.jpg I decided to use the 4 kW PIP inverter @bga left with me as a means to provide a regular load. It also has a built in charger at about 1.8 kW when plugged into mains. I still don't have a BMS on the batte...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

I may have to trace continuity from that pin to wherever Edit: thinking about it some more, it's not certain that this would work because of the relatively large resistance (2.74 kΩ). At a test current of 1 mA, this might appear as open circiut. Better to test on ohms range; you should see some con...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

Without the mod the pin is physically missing from the socket - a good look in good light should confirm. The pin itself is there, question is if there is a wire attached and where does it go? I may have to trace continuity from that pin to wherever , possibly just the other side of the inlet socke...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing

I have questions for the brains-trust here: 1)How and where is the command given to the charger of how much current is drawn from the grid? I know my model 10 charges with approx 12.5 A whether I use a common cable or one with the "brick". The "brick"reduces the charge to about 8 + A on the model 12...

Re: *Recall*Vacuum pump for brakes

Reviving this old thread. Shortly after I bought my iMiEV, the vacuum pump was replaced according to the recall paperwork (16/03/17). In January 2020 I received an "URGENT SAFETY RECALL 010162" to replace the brake booster electric vacuum pump ( I have until 21/10/2020 to get this done). My mates ar...

I wouldn't be able to set a timer accurately enough to hit 95%, given the length of time needed also varies. Getting 130km to show on the guessometer, and actually getting 130km are two very different things. A battery with all 16kwh remaining can do it. Yesterday my fully charged toy showed 98 km on the guessometer, after I drove 27.5 km it *guessed* 46 km! A while ago I took this EvBatMon screen shot : ...

Hi All, Of course, with an IMiev, I have an interest in this discussion. I don't recall seeing any talk about a guesstimate of the likely total cost of doing one of these projects. Has anyone made any comment about this. It does also seem to me that it would be highly recommended to do the first ca...
