Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

Its summer (almost) and regular charge of 30 to 40 amps is going into the NiFe's which is what they should be charged at by Edison's documentation from 1900's. I am going to measure water use in a cell over each week for the next few weeks. I have paralleled some cells that show less capacity than t...

Re: MKS-II-5KWB Repair Please help

They have confirmed that the units are clones and this likely explains why they do not function correctly and randomly fail. I am not sure that is true , I think even if you install new inverters the cause of this failure may still be there, I feel it could be a voltage spike on the incoming grid/g...

Re: PIP-5048MG Batteryless operation

I use the generator start relay to activate my neutral earth when in inverter mode could you do the same to disconnect in bypass mode.
The more advanced way would be to use another micro to ask the buss volts and disconnect if too high.

Re: MKS-II-5KWB Repair Please help

So if its a bus charge supply running off the AC mains in then high voltage spikes on AC in, maybe the generator or grid , maybe lightning so get voltage suppressors for AC input ask more questions of what happened the first time.

Re: MKS-II-5KWB Repair Please help

No it appears to be a typical mains power circuit configuration the two pin connector is its supply and the 4 pin is its output. From what I can see it does not connect to the PV. It was good that he posted the back of the board so I could follow it. Now that to me says a surge on that input so now ...

Re: MKS-II-5KWB Repair Please help

The circuit with the blown capacitor and NTC thermistor appears to be a small power supply not related to the solar charger there is a bridge rectifier after the input from the common mode filter and thermistor.

Re: Caravan upgrade to 24v or 48v

When you read the victron specs its a high frequency inverter like the MPP Solar and this note about output "Increases linearly from 4800 W at 46 VDC
to 5300 W at 52 VDC" so it is not 6000 watts . I would also like to know if the solar is isolated from the battery.

Re: MKS-II-5KWB Repair Please help

The capacitor that burnt is not a capacitor it is a NTC thermistor so over current burn out. What is the arrangement of panels and what are their full specs I suspect an over voltage problem. Can you also read the part numbers of the fets. "I would be interested to know who the original manufacturer...

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

I think it is claimed on the panels not the inverter as it would not be a grid feed system. You can have both systems one installed as a grid feed in then the backup with a smaller set of panels or no panels using the grid feed to keep the battery charged via the inverters 230v ac charger the invert...

Re: Caravan upgrade to 24v or 48v

48v is a good way to go now that converters are cheaply available , getting 12v from 48v or less is simple most would give 12v with 36v input. 12v to 48v chargers are also available to charge from the car while traveling. Note it seems caravan manufactures are going the 48v way. Victron are good uni...

Re: adding a second inverter to the same solar array

For high current relays/contactor albright engineers you can get 125 amp single pole ones for AU $35 from element 14 I use these as I have some already, they are big units with 10mm dual contacts for single pole to give large air gap they have a current breaking capacity of 400 amp at 80 volt dc so ...

Now its summer the 12 panels are putting 40 amps into the cells and getting to 1.7 volts per cell. Water use is about 10 liters per month , I purchased a 4 liter still off ebay it draws 700 watts and doubles as a fan heater , great in winter, the water is free (almost) as I run it during the day off...

Wow, inductive load of 80A at 220V, 18KW for the first few seconds kind of thing?

My AC is a split Daikin FTXM95PVMA, like 3 years old, it better be soft start lol!
I do not think it is reading the specs.

I have now been pulling 70Ah out of 38 cells each night across the lead acid bank.

Craig
What I am saying is that grid connect must use approved equipment on the list and the distributor has to agree
also I think battery grid feed may not be allowed at present only in trials.

You can only look at the likes of Tesla , LG ect as you will have to get an approved grid connect system.
I still think it unlikely that you will get a return on investment though.
