Fifth generation generator complete and tested - This is the first fully contained design, with everything housed and intended to work all weather - Technologically, it's a slight improvement on the fourth generation, but everything changed slightly - Still uses three fans for cooling. http://powerc...

Regen braking and Back EMF are pretty similar - main differences being that one is intentional, and the other not... And, of course, the regen braking comes in at any speed, while back-emf only occurs at higher speeds that the motor runs on the battery, and the power is either sucked away by dynami...

What sort of daily km are you doing? Must be a lot. I get about 30km out of a $100 lithium battery. I've done the opposite to you with voltage, running a 36v hub motor at 48v to get more speed out of it, but using a cycle analyst to limit the power to 200w. Eh? That's pretty impressive - I never kn...

Hybrid Electric Bicycle

Hi Rusdy, That's a pretty nice looking bike - very clean lines and I do like the solar charger ( I assume you use a voltage booster to direct-drive the battery charge? ) - you did a nice job on the conversion. The motor power was more co-incidence than intent. I started with 500 @ 48v and thought "I...

All up including the rear carrier rack? Less than 6kg difference. Given the size of battery pack I'd need to support the range I go, it weighs less than a battery of equivalent capacity - but you are correct that it needs struts on the carrier to take the load - I ride very carefully over bumps at t...

Hybrid vs EV - Forum thoughts?

I much prefer pure EV as a concept. No ice servicing, no fuel, no oil, no extra unneeded weight....... I am long term planning a conversion that might have hybrid as part of its make up though....I use a ute for my gardening business, sometimes I do 30km, sometimes 150....and I'm usually towing a t...

Hybrid vs EV - Forum thoughts?

Hi all,

I was just wondering what the general forum thoughts were on the topic of pure-EV or Hybrid EV ( Series or Parallel Hybrid ) -

Have many people made them, or is the thought to go pure EV and get rid of everything with an engine?

Cheapest Commuting Challenge

Oops - Just realized a calculation error - I thought some of the numbers looked bigger than I had expected them to be based on earlier calculations and projections.... BTW, I'm working off of 200 commutes per year - so calculations are based on that, but this only affects the lifespan in years - Al...

Hmmm, I did develop such a system - It was an 800x600 VGA screen ( 0.4" ) that ran off of 2 x CR123 batteries, and could either sit over my eye while wearing my bike helmet ( I have a NV plate on my bike helmet ) or integrate a see-through reflector to direct the image over my FOV ( diopter adjusta...

Hybrid Electric Bicycle

Yes, well spotted - I'm using a 3kW motor derated to 1kW with additional forced cooling - It doesn't even get warm enough to feel the heat at 500w, so should handle 1kW with the wire on it - Rated to 1.5kW for 10 minutes without additional cooling and I use a direct-drive ducted fan to force air th...

Hi All, A hybrid bike inventor in Perth here :).

LoL! No, but I did haunt the place for many years and did apply for a job there once while I was inbetween work ( didn't get the job ).

Most of those electronics, battery, etc are all from Jaycar.

( no, I don't work for Jaycar either ) :)

so the life-cycle cost would be AUD1,600 / 800 trips = 2 bucks a trip (or 7.5 cents per km). Try to beat that! Sorry, you did throw down a challenge, so I'll answer that with my own hybrid petrol/electric system. Image taken two prototypes ago... It doesn't look all that different at the moment. ht...

Hi All, A hybrid bike inventor in Perth here :).

Hi My first post to the forum - I've been wanting to make my own EV for commute for some time, but never expected it to be a bicycle - I posted about it here So I thought I'd drop in, say hi and introduce my project and see what else people were working on on the forum - :) The bike is designed for ...

Hybrid Electric Bicycle

Hi All, I've been working on a new idea and have read these forums before so thought i'd join the forum and introduce my project and try to find anyone else who has worked on a similar project. I don't know what the forum feelings around hybrids are - Some time ago, I wanted to build an electric car...
