Re: EVs - a disruptive era
Lol the e-car was so effortless, the ICE sounded like it was crying for help, and then it needed some after a couple of lousy donuts.

Re: Pro's & Con's of Converting My EFi 2000 Toyota Hilux 4x4 into an EV 4x4
If you plan to use a manual gearbox and a motor that spins to 10,000 rpm, will you be driving every where in 1st gear or second gear? A planetary set from an automatic gearbox would give you a reasonable reduction with less gear friction losses and maybe fed into a second planetary to give low rang...

If you're spending a lot on a motor and battery pack (we all have to, you're looking at $30-40k easily in batteries for the range) it makes no sense to keep any of the mechanical stuff. My plan is to keep the really nice power steering (BMW E30) hydraulic with an off the shelf pump, remove the heati...

I believe the cars that this fellow is racing have pushrod V8 engines mostly, they're a bit slow off the line.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aGqUTsUbdg
Throw that V8 in the bin, it just can't compete if you want fastest to 80km/h. 15k buys a lot of electric motor.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I'll watch on with interest and it will be good to know when you work out what it would cost to do the same for somebody else. Definitely not at the stage of ordering batteries as they'll be the biggest expense but there seems to be a lot of options and I would get som...

Re: Spec my powerplant: BMW E30 318is
Would you consider the motors I am using with the inline planetary gear box? It will give you about 660Nm out of the gear box. You can connect it directly to the rear diff with a cv joint. You can see some pictures of how it fits and how it looks on my conversion thread. (Francisco's electric Pajer...

Re: Spec my powerplant: BMW E30 318is
ThIs actually looks like a lot better package and 300Nm so probably wouldn't need a gearbox. http://store.evtv.me/proddetail.php?prod=UQM100 Yep - solid choice. Ouch AUD$18,000 + Shipping + duties and taxes Didn't the UWA lotus have one of those? How does $6495 USD come to $18000 AUD? On today's US...

@jonescg I've come full circle on this and want to start looking at getting bits. Kicking myself I missed @a4x4kiwi's kit, wondering who got it and if they finished their build. Then again it would have sat in my garage for years :( I really like the idea of re-using purpose built motors and it seem...

Did this recently for a forum I run for a club. It's very simple, whoever has access to your hosting should be able to make it happen.

Re: seeking advise - EV batteries oriented towards performance
@jonescg Because I am not good at math, how do your packs compare price wise and density wise to the ElMofo packs? Those things look pretty amamzing but also pretty expensive. Yours look pretty damn nice too.

I'm sure we could do a go fund me to send them to Canberra with a humorous token gift that they made with their trade skills. Potential for massive publicity for EV's.

Re: The full Hyundai Ioniq range headed down under
Took one for a spin, nice, super snappy from 30-100km, didn't seem as punchy off the line as the Leaf which I recall last time i drove it lacked in that 30-100. Quieter than the Leaf. We now have one of each at work. The Hyundai leather wheel is nice and the instrument display changing when you chan...

For the all out horsepower, Rimac battery and drivetrain x 2. Could probably fit that in a big old Holden, just don't have a million bucks for the components from Rimac. I'm interested in what you are discussing, please, tell more To do the burn out comp you would need to add flames coming out of e...

Re: HP in EV vs HP in ICE
A Tesla did the go to whoa in 2016. An electric vehicle could win that very easily if done to the level of ICE cars that currently win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLebwnN6zNY The burnout has to go for a minute, again easily done with the right EV setup. It is a pipedream to build my BMW to be a...

Re: RETROFIT SOUND GENERATOR FOR EV?
Why risk such things going badly when a simple noise generator would alert those on foot there was a vehicle approaching? Mike beat me to it, but my ICE Golf cruising at 40km/h would be as quiet as your Prius, sometimes I can't tell if the engine is running from inside the car. We could take a leaf...

Looking at the numbers here I'd roughly hit the same 5c km on my converted 350w rear hub drive bike which has around 4300km on it. I only just got back on it this week after a long hiatus. I'm in Canberra so the times work out each way about 15 minutes in the car and about 30 minutes on the bike for...
