Nissan will soon be confronted with the Australian market reality when the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Kona arrive!
And I will just laugh at them for delaying themselves into irrelevance. They had the product but not the balls.

Re: X1 vs S6000?

So a short review after the test ride: - Not having a clutch meant take off from the lights is smooth as butter. Even a little too peppy down low to the point I would be worried about traction in the wet. Configurable apparently so a non-issue. - Silence is golden. Love it. Small bit of electric whi...

Good grief, steer clear of anything zev. They're horrible, and don't meet speed range or acceleration specs.

So now the options seem to be conversion or find a vectrix...

X1 vs S6000?

I'm going to test drive the X1 next week. I guess the main competition in my mind the ZEV S6000 . The biggest concern other than the price is the small wheels and form factor of the X1. I just don't see it being a good commuter for me (22km each way, 80kph zones, some long steep hills). Leaning towa...

Other parts such as battery pack, motor, air con, charger etc possibly now available too... (change of plans)
So... the big question is how much do you want for the motor and controller?

And what sort of condition is the battery pack in?

New Leaf: Nissan breaks "end of 2018" promise and now targetting mid 2019 release

Got this email yesterday:

They are giving Hyundai a good run for their money to avoid being the next company to release a BEV in Australia.

Paladin Solar Controller

Thinking about getting one of these: https://www.paladinsolarcontroller.com.au We have 3.5kw of solar on our roof and export power on sunny days, usually more than 10kwh. The system has been online for about 6-7 months so I'm still getting familiar with what it can do. Our hot water system is curren...

Re: Electric Motor Cycle 9 KW

Doesn't look like it can take a pillion passenger. Not that I do that regularly but it's handy sometimes. Maybe I keep my current bike and commute with this most days. Rego isn't so bad for scooters. ~$300/yr.

Why do so many people post here and then disappear never to be seen again?

Re: 2018 Leaf spotted...

My CRX is pretty close to unserviceable, but I can't afford an EV to replace it. So I have to stump up to maintain it and sweath the two-wheeled options as long as I can. We would like to buy a used Leaf (maybe from Japan) in the first half of next year, but it's got to be under $14k. Very frustrat...

2018 Leaf spotted...

I saw a 2018 Leaf today on Parramatta Rd. Had trade plates on. "Any day now...." I also saw an Ioniq a few months back heading up Roseville Bridge. What luck, neither are available publicly. Shame it took so long to get here, I had to buy a car this year (ICE unfortunately) and they both missed the ...

Re: Oversized RC BLDC Outrunners

2. Typical RPM is usually most ICE's peak so will need a good hi-revving gearbox (thin oil). Yeah I found that the RPM ranges up to 10k, which means in practice I'd need a 2:1 gear box or similar. The Motenergy motors would probably be more durable for the price. Most of their stuff is really low p...

Re: Oversized RC BLDC Outrunners

Why couldn't this be used in a small car... ~1100kg... 50kw is enough to get it going, maybe not fast... Is it lacking in some other way? Really low continuous rating? No Torque? No mention of RPM range... so maybe it'd need a gearbox. I'm looking for CHEAP alternatives for a small car conversion. 8...

Re: The full Hyundai Ioniq range headed down under

The Hyundai guy I talked to at the ACT's EV policy launch at few days ago said (with a bunch of caveats) 'about $43,000'. I did some guess work on pricing here . Based on the NZ <-> AU pricing of similar ICE models. So yes the $43k number is plausible for the plugin hybrid.. but not the BEV. I'm wo...

I'll try and check back when they have it in stock. I wouldn't mind taking it for a test ride. Maybe I can take some photos and...

So that particular one fell through when the battery pack died. I since bought a 200cc scoot which turned out to be pretty good. But it's not electric, I guess if a cheap enough Vectrix shows up then I would still be interested. I see that tesla modules (5.5kWh) are now available for individual purc...

Maybe one rating is the petrol engine and one is the electric motor? It would make sense to have the electric motor at a higher rating for acceleration and the petrol motor close to the average power requirement.

So I'm reading up about these cars, and there is a bunch of disagreement on the actual power rating of the electric motor. Some say it's 40kw and some says it's 80kw . It's 20km each way, and I don't think I can charge at work. In any case I'm planned to have at least 50km in a worst case scenario: cold, lots of hills, headwind etc. So 70+km in normal conditions.

WTB: Vectrix (or functional equivilant)

So hours later it came back up our street and I got another look at it. I think it was a Vectrix, the 3 round dials for the instrument display, the longer length of the body. I was surprised at how loud the engine whine was, like ICE loud.... :( That's certainly making me think twice. It was pushing...
