Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
20240121_180515_resized.jpg I made a subtle correction to the nose of the car over the weekend. I think it looks better A new bonnet lid and a cover up front are the ones I can see easily (well, beside the lights in their spots) any other changes? T1 Terry The main correction was very subtle. Even ...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
I'm not sure if I mentioned it here but I have changed direction. I am ditching my old DC motor in favour of a brand new AC motor. I was always of the understanding that DC torque was better than AC torque and I was also told that the tope end of AC was no better than the equivalent DC motor. But I ...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
HI @galderdi I hadn't been following this build till now. Amazing skills you are learning. Looking fwd to the next phase of motor batteries and stuff. Will be an awesome creation. Thanks. I recently changed direction. I have purchased a new Netgain Hyper 9 HV along with all the associated stuff. It...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
Wow, I'm not putting any of my panel forming up after seeing that, very impressive indeed T1 Terry Thanks, that nose is actually my second attempt. The first attempt will probably end up as wall art for someone. Largely it is as simple as understanding where to shrink and where to stretch. The pape...

Here is the latest pic. Still some refinement required before I can permanently attach the nose and finish the bonnet skin.

Re: Electric Motorkhana and khanacross car
I had seen evidence AASA were setting up an EV category so at least they are attempting to keep up with progress. I have raced under Racers and they didn't appear to have any issues with EVs. I raced against a Tesla and a Kona on different occasions. But I think Racers is only in SE QLD (Happy if I ...

Re: Electric Motorkhana and khanacross car
That's very interesting, I liked the idea of a Motorkhana EV too. Pretty sure Targa West is an MA event and Jurgen Lunsmann has been doing very well in a Tesla. I'd have thought if they had a Tesla sized water bath someone would have noticed. No problem this year as they've suspended tarmac rallies...

Re: EV autocross
AEVA has applied to be an affiliate member of Motorsport Australia. We've not heard back, but once accepted we should be able to compete in any sanctioned MA event with benefits that flow on to AEVA members, like day licenses and insurance. But yeah, the wheels turn slowly in gas racer land. I woul...

Re: EV autocross
Motorsport Australia blocked my involvement with an EV in any of their events. They apparently had a set of unpublished rules which make it impossible for an EV to compete. The only reason I got away with mine was because it was unpublished nobody knew to stop me. It was only when I entered an event...

Re: Electric Motorkhana and khanacross car
Hello galderdi, I am new in this forum, and have a BMW i3, Fonzarelli X1 and a Mazda MX5 which I have used on motorkhana, khanacross and hillclimbs. I was very interested to read about your car, as I am starting on a similar project, to build a locost, if I can. I have recently acquired a BMW 318 r...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
Hmmm...... when I kick the body work it doesn't tend to shrink, sort of stretches really  My experience with hammer and dollies doing the automotive body work metal forming as a night class at TAFE resulted in the VW hubcap we were supposed to make looking more like half a golf ball  I c...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
Wow, that is progressing well. Congratulations on te project so far. What did you use to form the rounded parts? Will the body lift off to access the batteries etc? I'm panicked enough just planning the body mods on the Kombi to go EV, completely constructing a vehicle from the ground up ... way ou...

Re: Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
Looking good have you picked up the body building skills in the aviation or racing industry? certainly keen to emulate the running gear ideas as I am ok with my Boxster shape and weight ( I am a larger build than yourself  ) Would love to discuss your build. Cheers Barra Thanks mate, Are you s...

Porsche Tincan in Brisbane
It has been a while since I posted on AEVA. I haven't been all that active on the EV front. However I have been forming my plans. I am building a Porsche (Tincan) 550 Spyder EV from scratch. It will be 550Kg and will be road registered. I already have the chassis and almost all the mechanicals. I ha...

Re: Electric Motorkhana and khanacross car
I have made some adjustments to the front geometry. I lengthened the upper control arms by 10mm each side. This has reduced the static camber and also has the side effect of reducing the length difference between the upper and lower control arms which will decrease the camber gain mid corner. It wil...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try and track down a copy.
To date I have been working from Carroll Smith - Tune to win. Considering where/when I started I am fairly happy with the progress.

Re: Electric Motorkhana and khanacross car
Just coming back to this forum to see what was happening. Great to see you are getting some outings in the car! It seems a bit twitchy in some of the videos; maybe needs a slightly longer wheelbase? Also in one of the still photos, 169a, the rear RH spring looks to be just about "coil bound&qu...

Re: Noosa EV Expo, Sat 22nd June 2019
I was signed up to attend. But I had to withdraw as my car is unregistered and they are asking for a copy of my CTP. It was a bit late for me to organise any way around it. I am disappointed as I enjoyed the event last year. But at the same time it is my wife's birthday and she wasn't totally happy ...
