I would argue that the pitstop, and the performance of the pit crew in that high pressure scenario, is a big part of motorsport.

I loved the race! That was a hell of a crash at the end. I do agree, though, that the series needs more rawness. The car swap was not as terrible as I thought it would be, but I still think a more traditional pitstop with battery swap would be better. Maybe have the race long enough to require two s...

I think he wants everyone to use their "supercharger" standard. Which is not horrible, i guess.

Electric test car with aluminum-air battery takes

It seems like it could be a good alternative to a small petrol engine with a generator for long trips. They claim the packs are being made in Quebec, where 90% of the electricity is made by hydro electric dams - so it would be the cleanest aluminium available, at least. Still hanging out for lithium...

Wow those are great numbers on the lithium pack. I'm sure with their longer life and greater range you'll find they at least break even with the cost of buying several lead packs. I daresay they'll even be cheaper.

Rental car

Hey folks. It's been a while since i've been on here. This winter my family and i are going on holidays to Brisbane, and i figured it would be a great chance to drive an EV for a few days - assuming there was a company that would rent me one. Hertz claims to have a "green car fleet" but that seems t...

LAMs and EV Bikes

I received a letter from the DoT the other day, informing me that Western Australia is finally going to implement the LAMS system for RE class motorcycle licenses. Since this is based on power/weight ratio, rather than engine displacement as in the old system, how does this relate to EV bikes? An EV...

There was an imprezza (though not a wrx) in the album as an eleceokhana vehicle. It had two AC motors, which i always thought was a neat setup.

I had three phase put into my house when it was built, where the plan was that i'd be driving an EV by now. :(
But at least it's there, ready to go for the future. As it is i probably won't need a three phase charger for my bike, even if i could fit one in there somewhere.

Best electric motorbike for L and P plater?

1Kw is far too low for a road bike. I'd like to use the ME1003 motor from Motenergy. Assuming i can find someone to sell one to me. And assuming i can ever find the money to do the conversion. It can do 23kW for one minute, and 11.5kW continuous. The engine in my GPX250 produces 27kW, iirc. So it's ...

On the subject of venues, it's a real shame Caversham Raceway was never really developed and will now become housing. That leaves Barbagello and Collie for track racing, right? I'm not actually sure, but it's a shame anyway. There could have been a racing circuit just down the road for me!

I voted for "other" for the same reason Jones did. I would love to see electric motorcycles racing in Perth. When it comes to four wheels i'm torn evenly between karts, electrothon, open wheelers, and converted "touring cars". They all have their merits and shortcomings, but bikes win any day. :P

Very interesting. The first pages make it sound like it could end up being a one-manufacturer competition, which has its merits but i don't think would be good for EVs or electric motorsport. I wonder if Tesla Motors know about this...

I have to agree about the looks and riding position, but by the gods this is how you advertise an electric vehicle! I kinda want one, despite the prototype look. Where were you when the EV1 was being "advertised"? haha I really hope this thing makes it to production. I was a bit skeptical at first a...

Doesn't work for me, either. :(

When you say endurance, do you mean a 24 hour race? Or an electrokhana style count of laps completed using X kWh of energy?

I like those lay-down karts! Very neat. I was reminded of this thread yesterday after seeing a go-kart for sale at a house down the road. $2k: Very tempting. Still need the bike first, though. *edit* I know people wouldn't take us seriously if the karts were like this, but man this is a great lookin...

Karts sound pretty good to me. Not too expensive, you could do efficiency challenges as well as flat out racing, and they're accessible. If we want to go to something bigger then Formula Vee sounds pretty good. My neighbour races a HQ holden at Barbagallo, and there is an endless supply of fairly ch...

I'm sure LiFePO4 will have to do for now haha
