Vehicle-To-Load
Has anyone tested the VTL option? Does anyone know what load it can drive? What PF it supports?

Re: Kona owners: oil and magnetic plug change recommended!
Looking at that "exploded" case above, it might be possible to drill a hole from the outside near the magnet, tap it M5 or M6 and screw in (with some thread sealant) a short screw to push the magnet up against the internal wall so that it can't move and rattle around. That way you would no...

Re: iMiEV charging, J1772 testing
The charge port on the MiEV requires a wiring modification to work with commercial chargers. If it works OK from a GPO, you can get a replacement wiring loom and install it yourself (or get someone to do it for you). The replacement loom is a couple of metres long and takes only an hour or so to rep...

Re: Can't read cell voltages in i-MiEV
Success! Worked with Mark in Canberra to identify and replace the bad cell. Although we could not see any difference between the bad cell and its mates by the time we got it out of the car and dismantled, we were confident we had the right one and replaced it with a cell I had previously prepared to...

Re: On-board charger repair
I guess that on the load side of your circuit is a full-wave bridge and the three big caps. Have you tried connecting a mains voltage to that load through, say, a 100W incandescent lamp? Just to check that the load is OK?

Re: Can't read cell voltages in i-MiEV
It's a 2010 build, Rob. Since the original post, I have installed HobDrive, an app that works on the I-MiEV. There is an Android version that works on my phone and on the new Lenovo tablet that I bought for the occasion. Mark Hemmingsen from Canberra Electric Vehicles (who performed the battery upgr...

Re: Can't read cell voltages in i-MiEV
Brendon, thanks for the pointer. Installed "ScanMaster" with that icon you described, but it claims it can't connect to my Bluetooth adaptor either. It says "Can't connect to ECU". Maybe I installed the wrong app? Only the CaniOn app seems to work for me. It connects, shows me th...

Re: Can't read cell voltages in i-MiEV
Jeremy, thanks for the IP address and Port number. Still no connect, even after a Save, Exit and "Close all". At the moment I have the OZ-DIY upgrade (the Man-In-the-Middle box) disconnected and bridged so that the car is back to normal but simply with more capacity. Besides, the CaniOn ap...

Can't read cell voltages in i-MiEV
I'm trying to read the cell voltages in my i-MiEV. I have a Samsung phone with Android, and I've installed CaniOn152 and EVBatMon on it. I've tried several OBD adaptors: the latest I've bought is the "OBDLink LX101", as recommended on the EVPositive website. I've also tried a Jaycar cheapi...

If it also supports dynamic 4-wheel regenerative braking, that is also some mean software!
Not sure about the ground clearance for a rally car, though.

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Perhaps there is a case (pardon the pun) for a programmable spoofer, accessible via the CAN bus from outside...It's still not totally clear whether we will want/need to adjust the spoofing in the final design. It's looking to me that we might.

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Mike, how is the spoofing progressing? That box you showed on the previous page - where does it connect? Does it connect to the swamp of intelligence under the rear seat? Or does it hang out from under the dashboard? I'm assuming you don't have to drop the battery out to make adjustments to the spoo...

OK, here goes. Pic from CRO screen, both traces 200 V/div, 0 V on centre line. Note yellow trace swinging down to -560 V while blue trace is flying up to +280. a difference of 840 V. The ringing is at a frequency of about 2.2 MHz. If that is the resonance of the 4400 pF caps and stray inductance, it...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Well, my high-voltage CRO probes finally arrived yesterday, so I was able to open up the OBC and measure the voltage across the capacitors. I can't measure across the capacitors directly, as I can't safely get a couple of CRO probes in there with the upper PCB in place, so I measured the voltage acr...

Don't know whether this information is useful to the discussion or not, so take it or leave it... The other day we ran out of juice on the way home from a shopping trip. Fortunately we were able to pull into the car parking area outside an office, where the nice people let us plug into their GPO for...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
I'm sure I'm telling you nothing you haven't already calculated, but... I would be careful about "desensitising" the current sensing. The current sensor is probably also used to limit the current if Leadfoot Leroy floors the pedal on a steep hill or driveway. If the indicated current is lo...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Well, the manual says "press the button at least ten times within the first seven seconds". It has no effect here, the pump does not run. Chris said earlier "don't worry about it", so I bit the bullet and left it in charge mode, with more coolant and funnel ready. When the pump t...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
I'm not worried about the pump, I'm worried that there could be large areas of the coolant circuit that are empty and I won't be confident until I see it circulating, sans bubbles. The Russian manual gives a thorough description of how to bleed the circuit, but it depends on using an "ASC"...

Urgent need to get the car going again, so I installed the 2200 pF/4 kV caps instead of waiting any longer for the 1000 pF/3 kV. Car now comes up Ready and the charger works, but the coolant motor won't run, so I daren't run it for more than a few seconds. I remember at one stage when the OBC was re...

Heh. I found the plug (opposite the inlet hose from the inverter) and tried to remove it with a 6 mm Allen key. Nothing doing. Having broken an Allen key many years ago in the same circumstances (and still wearing the scar), I abandoned the attempt. The plug and the inlet hose are at the same level ...

I would suggest that no thickness of paint that you can apply will last under vibration. Better go for a solid insulator.
