Re: I've got my Kona

I think I'd call that a "two-seats plus room-for-a-child's-booster-seat".

Thanks for the pic.

Re: I've got my Kona

Hey Clinton,

It's a 4-seater, right? No one ever shows photos of the back seat!

Re: replacing the ECU and the battery pack in Miev 2010

If the 12 volt vehicle battery under the bonnet has gone flat, you won't be able to start charging.

I'm sure you know that, since you've owned the car for so long, but just making sure...

Did you mean 40 kWH (battery)?

Re: Solar panels on an EV roof

Hanzieo currently I'm stuck with the 140vdc out of the pannels to 316v of the battery There is also the possibility of using micro-inverters to deliver 240V AC directly from each panel. Here I have 16 panels with µ-inverters. I charge the MiEV during the afternoon once the Powerwall is full at abou...

Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor

As a matter of interest, how would you go about disconnecting banks of cells before removing them? As a retired electrical engineer, the thought of handling 360 V DC appalls me. Nightmare stuff. I'd rather handle 415 V 3-ph mains. How many cells in a bank? Is there a single nut on a post at each end...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project

How do you connect to those Liyuan cells? I see no threaded holes for studs.

Is there a protective sticker over the hole, perhaps? Over the hole on the pole ;)?

What is that display of battery condition (second and third pix) in the first post? How can I view it for a vehicle I want to buy?

Simple Precharge Circuit

Assuming the controller has ~300 µF of caps charged to 150V, that is an energy storage of ½CV^2 , which is 3.375 J or 0.0009375 WH.

Even if you have 1 F of capacitance, that can only hold 11.25 kJ or 3.125 WH of energy at 150V.

Not very significant compared to the energy used in running the car !

Weber & Coulomb's LyteFyba BMS

Hi guys, been silent for a while, just getting interested again. Good to see the progress with technology. I love the new designs for CMUs and BMSs. I just have one niggle - I seem to recall that in Oz, at least, we are bound by AS3000 for all wiring. As I read it, that means that it is contrary to ...

A Lurker's Ideas

Hi acmotor (and everyone else) Thanks for the responses, it seems that the generating performance of induction machines these days is better than it says in my Uni textbooks! However, the books are based on the machine being connected to a grid, not a VFD, so they won't behave the same way. I remain...

A Lurker's Ideas

Some years ago I was looking at the prospect of designing an AC controller in conjunction with my son Andy, who designs and sells after-market ECUs for hotted-up ICE cars (http://adaptronic.com.au). I was going to do the high-power design, building and debugging on a test vehicle, Andy was going to ...

Hi guys, another lurker. In fact, in another life, another forum, I was known as "The Masked Lurker" for a while, but these days I'm just "Masky". I'm an electronics design engineer (retired) and I love getting my hands dirty. I modified my Mazda van to 4WD many years ago and we've been around Oz a ...
