Re: One mean rally ready Hyundai Kona EV
If it also supports dynamic 4-wheel regenerative braking, that is also some mean software!
Not sure about the ground clearance for a rally car, though.

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Perhaps there is a case (pardon the pun) for a programmable spoofer, accessible via the CAN bus from outside...It's still not totally clear whether we will want/need to adjust the spoofing in the final design. It's looking to me that we might.

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Mike, how is the spoofing progressing? That box you showed on the previous page - where does it connect? Does it connect to the swamp of intelligence under the rear seat? Or does it hang out from under the dashboard? I'm assuming you don't have to drop the battery out to make adjustments to the spoo...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
OK, here goes. Pic from CRO screen, both traces 200 V/div, 0 V on centre line. Note yellow trace swinging down to -560 V while blue trace is flying up to +280. a difference of 840 V. The ringing is at a frequency of about 2.2 MHz. If that is the resonance of the 4400 pF caps and stray inductance, it...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Well, my high-voltage CRO probes finally arrived yesterday, so I was able to open up the OBC and measure the voltage across the capacitors. I can't measure across the capacitors directly, as I can't safely get a couple of CRO probes in there with the upper PCB in place, so I measured the voltage acr...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Don't know whether this information is useful to the discussion or not, so take it or leave it... The other day we ran out of juice on the way home from a shopping trip. Fortunately we were able to pull into the car parking area outside an office, where the nice people let us plug into their GPO for...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
I'm sure I'm telling you nothing you haven't already calculated, but... I would be careful about "desensitising" the current sensing. The current sensor is probably also used to limit the current if Leadfoot Leroy floors the pedal on a steep hill or driveway. If the indicated current is lower, you r...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Well, the manual says "press the button at least ten times within the first seven seconds". It has no effect here, the pump does not run. Chris said earlier "don't worry about it", so I bit the bullet and left it in charge mode, with more coolant and funnel ready. When the pump turned on some ten mi...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
I'm not worried about the pump, I'm worried that there could be large areas of the coolant circuit that are empty and I won't be confident until I see it circulating, sans bubbles. The Russian manual gives a thorough description of how to bleed the circuit, but it depends on using an "ASC" switch, w...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Urgent need to get the car going again, so I installed the 2200 pF/4 kV caps instead of waiting any longer for the 1000 pF/3 kV. Car now comes up Ready and the charger works, but the coolant motor won't run, so I daren't run it for more than a few seconds. I remember at one stage when the OBC was re...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Heh. I found the plug (opposite the inlet hose from the inverter) and tried to remove it with a 6 mm Allen key. Nothing doing. Having broken an Allen key many years ago in the same circumstances (and still wearing the scar), I abandoned the attempt. The plug and the inlet hose are at the same level ...

I would suggest that no thickness of paint that you can apply will last under vibration. Better go for a solid insulator.

Thanks, Mark, Didn't know about that plug. I'll open it tomorrow and see if any more comes out ;) I got a lot out by lifting the front of the car, making it higher than the rear. Dunno how long it's going to take to refill it, with a bit more, then a bit more, then... Still waiting for these damned ...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Fuses arrived the other day. I bought five of them to avoid delays "next time" and to help others if urgent supplies are needed. The fuses came from Hong Kong through Mouser, but I am still waiting for capacitors supposedly in Farnell and RS Components stock in Sydney. Heaved a sigh of relief once t...

coulomb: Thanks for the reply. Taking a close look at the caps, I see that the middle one is quite flat and the outer two are slightly bowed (less than the pictures in The Big Thread). Considering the difficulty of replacing them, I think I'll pass this time. I mentioned varistors because the batter...

Re: Nuggetgalore's iMiEV charger failure
Hi all, My poor Mitsi suffered the now well-known OBC failure yesterday. It was a bright sunny day and (as is my habit) I plugged in the Grandpa cable to soak up a bit of good sunlight. Hadn't been running for more than 10 mins when I heard from inside the house a hollow "bonk" from the direction of...

Funny. I was sent them (at no cost) by the NSW Government and told I had to affix them to the car or else I would burn in the fires of hell.
I've since seen quite a lot of them on cars that I did not realise were hybrids.

Just noticed last week that Macquarie Centre (North Ryde, Sydney) now hosts a set of ten SuperChargers in the basement. Dunno when they were installed (last few months of isolation absence), but the 3kW bowser for my i-Miev is still there and has been moved over against the wall.

Hey Andreas, My 2010 Mitsi was upgraded way back before I bought it. The previous owner gave me all the paperwork including the dealer's invoices, showing that the pump had been replaced. When I received that same letter from the local dealer in January, I read through this thread and examined the p...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
Count me in. I'm prepared to pay the full amount and risk having to undo it all again. Even if you don't get the full 93 AH out of the cells because of Big Brother BMS, it's likely that you would get at least the nominal capacity, with the benefit of a reduced DOD and a longer life. Haven't contacte...
