RMLane's 1912 Baker Electric
Thanks for the excellent summary covering your background and total commitment in performing faithful restorations. I did think it was worth mentioning as I have seen the results of some real cowboys over the years and it has complicated many of my restoration projects. In your case, I apologise for...

RMLane's 1912 Baker Electric
Pretty well anyone can put state of the art components in it but it takes a lot of research and skill to faithfully refabricate and/or restore period components. Would not be easy agree but well worth the time investment in my view if you have the skills base. See http://www.diyelectriccar.com/forum...

A/C condenser protection?
Ok here are the results from the Grill-O—Meter on four different style grills. Briefly the best grill from my tests for the i-MiEV would be NO grill. Acmotor is spot on in early comments about basically any form of grill restricting airflow to a reasonable degree. Kind of interesting to test.... I f...

Zippie11car you are right I’m not a ‘REAL’ i-MiEV driver it is my wife’s car and I would be lucky to driver it 5,000km a year so I will stop posting more.... But will make final posts on the following to tie up some loose ends... 1 - Re the tyres, I repeat, I find it hard to accept a comparison base...

Sorry, absolutely don’t want to rubbish your opinions! You are most likely correct....
Just not sure that is a great way to compare?
I don’t use the i-MiEV much anyway so I’m a poor person to ask about handling.
BTW what took 5,000km to settle in? Just confused about that statement??

Bob Jane here in Adelaide doesn't have the I-MiEV data in their system so this might help..... They normally use a 'TIGHTENING TORQUE" of about 100 n-m for small wheels anyway. WHEEL_SERVICE_SPECIFICATIONS.pdf And alignment data is as follows: FRONT_WHEEL_ALIGNMENT_CHECK_AND_ADJUSTMENT.pdf Bruce

Can’t believe you are trying to compare the difference between tyres that have done 40,000km with new tyres! Surely the only comparison should be between the same vehicle with new tyres fitted in turn? In your case acmotor if you didn’t notice a large improvement I would be very surprised... "It too...

Received a reply back from Martin re caniOn additions including AAT etc as follows: “Hello Bruce! We are also interested in these temperature data. But we do not have any documentation from the i-MiEV's can-bus-data. All data we found are explored on base of comparison with the peugeot garagetool an...

TPMS on i-MiEVs
Wow 6 or 7 years after the US laws! Lots of newer cars have TPMS already here. The comment was more about retro fitting especially the external ones like I use. Many disadvantages.... expensive if you buy a good quality unit, ugly and largish sensors, can be stolen easily (even with the Allen key lo...

Thanks acmotor. I’m sure this was a one off issue and you guys most likely don’t have a problem! Just I should have noticed the problem sooner and assumed incorrectly they all had a problem. Another 48 hrs will show no drop on tyre 3 I’m sure. Was getting so bad that 1 to 2 PSI in 24 hours could be ...

Well problem solved. Tyre 3 once again lost pressure in 24 hours? (@ the same temperature) http://forums.aeva.asn.au/uploads/282/tyre_fianl2.jpg The car was due for its 1500km post sales service yesterday (she had done closer to 3,000km). She had absolutely nothing she could fault on the car! But th...

Interesting info on OS 2012 i-MiEV tyre pressure and monitoring here: http://tagore.drivingforceauto.com/sitemedia/1959/758/Docs/CSControl/tsb1231001.pdf “-Tire pressure should be checked and adjusted according to instructions in the owner’s manual. Thanks for the ideas Kurt. Have soap tested the valve stem on the worst tyre and can’t see anything obvious but such a slow leak could be hard to see (maybe?) The TyreDog gives me temperature as well and I have taken that into account. Actually number 3 is the warmest wheel on those last photos, so ...

TPMS on i-MiEVs
My wife noticed the tyre alarm on the way home last night and to my amazement one of the tyres had dropped to the low alarm limit I had set (34 psi) at the time I installed the TyreDog monitor. This now verifies what I saw happening prior to the addition of the monitor. Here are screen shots of the ...

Ok got the DIY anemometer working nicely with a reasonable voltage curve. Too gusty here to get good data but did a return run and averaged it to get a reference curve (ie no grill) that corresponded to 500mv @ 60km/h. Then I quickly did a worst case scenario run with the closed mesh (as shown in pr...

No question about any grill or filter of any type affecting airflow to some degree. The challenge is to find the balance between a slight reduction (hopefully only a few %) and the benefits of adding some useful protection from foreign objects. Re the drag co-efficient, sure it is going to change bu...

Interesting the more you look at things… Perhaps the idea of Active Grille Shutters should be look at for the i-MiEV? Yep you win the prize BigMouse it’s the AAT (Ambient Air Temperature) sensor and very easy to get at like most things on these! The little i-MiEV just had its first real wash and clean and one thing that has become obvious is the amount of bugs and road litter already collecting on the A/C condenser which is wide open and unscreened. Neither is there any protection from stone damage. The condenser is well back from the front...

Adelaide-EV stopped in day to use the caniOn app to check the balance status of the pack in her beautiful new i-MiEV.
Here is the result....

Another well balanced 88 cell pack!
BTW caniOn worked 100%?
