Re: ELV Solar array - isolation questions
The standards seem to be moving against us e.g. the new battery standard AS 5139 ( battery >12V and energy storage >1kWh) now abolishes the ELV <120VDC for 'competent persons' category and replaces it with the Decisive Voltage Classification (DVC) system. Under this new system, Non-electricians are ...

series and parallel rules with 12V lithium batteries
You know those 12V battery modules on the market (4 x 3.2V LiFePO4 cells + BMS in a case) ? e.g. Voltax 12V 100Ah stated as being able to be connected up to 4 series or 4 parallel. Does anyone know the technical reasons for the limits often stated on the maximum series and parallel combinations that...

My imiev is for sale, though it may end up as a trade in. If anyone is interested in it, be quick as once it is traded, the dealers will want more for it. Edit. I have been offered $8k As trade in so now is your chance to grab an imiev at a good price. 114k km 7/2012 delivered white no damage alway...

So I am looking at $8k as trade in.
Anyone interested in a good imiev at a great price let me know quickly before it goes to the dealer.

My imiev is for sale, though it may end up as a trade in. If anyone is interested in it, be quick as once it is traded, the dealers will want more for it. I am asking $8k as that is what has been offered as trade in. It is worth more like $12k on the market so grab a bargain. 114k km 7/2012 delivere...

Re: Aftermarket iMiEV battery upgrade project
My thinking is that it is not the practicality of those particular cells but rather the breaking of the knowledge ground around the imiev brain accepting an aftermarket upsize. For this work you are to be applauded.

Re: jonescg's home battery storage system
jonescg, Looks like it is coming together nicely. A few thoughts... Did you have to order the cell top boards from ev-power set for 3.6V max for OV rather than 4V ? Or is the OV programmable ? How do you plan to access the top of the cells in your cabinet to do manual voltage readings given the opti...

Re: *Recall*Vacuum pump for brakes
Sorry to throw in question the identification of silver vs black vacuum pumps as being the target of the recall. I had the original silver pump that was a replacement in 2012 in the original recall at the time and did 7 years and 105,000km and working fine. It was replaced in Feb 2019 by MMA field t...

Re: feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
Tried a few inverter gensets. Only the Honda EU range with parallel connectors work (safety shielded banana plugs that are just in parallel with 3 pin sockets). Other brands with parallel connectors are likely to work. The more basic (older) inverter gensets don't support AC sync. Mickey Blue and Ge...

Re: feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
Looked at some more Honda EU generator info then tried an EU10 (1kW) genset direct in parallel to house offgrid inverter. Re: feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
Thinking about that ..... Inverter genset with no apparent option to sync, or at least maintain sync as there will be two independent frequency sources. Honda and some others have a proprietary 'between gensets' sync system. Might research that. Could take DC direct from HF 3 phase rectifier inside ...

Re: feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
I can go for a 2.5kW GCI with output power limit and DC current limit as you note. A Delta Solivia 2.5 is to hand. spec is 3.1kW max PV in but sofware parameter limited to 2.5kW AC output. 18A input DC current limit. GCI Starts around 100V but would need 150V to develop 2.5kW AC output (eff. around ...

Re: feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
My offgrid system runs a 6kW (18kW surge) low frequency inverter with 3kW and 2.5kW GCIs connected to output (so AC coupled). Also a HAWT that helps, on occasion via a Windy Boy GCI. Battery bank charges by backfeed through inverter as it is also a charger when CGI pushes. Works a treat. Inverter an...

good.
What sort of DC voltages did you use ?
I expect running to DC input current limit is one way of controlling things.

feeding DC into a PV grid connect inverter
Does anyone have experience with feeding DC (not from PVs) directly into a PV grid connect inverter ? e.g. DC from a power source (generator, power supply, battery) within the rated DC input voltage range of the GCI and current limited (or not) to GCI current rating. I see that some MPPT trackers ex...

Spend a little time considering the hard facts of wind and power using a calculator like.. https://rechneronline.de/wind-power/ On a seriously windy day with average 30km/h wind for much of the day (gusts to 50km/h) my '1kw' 2.4m dia WT can produce 10kWh. It might do this 30 days a year. Remember wi...

Re: Imiev repair - precharge resistor
FWIW my guess would be min 300ohm max 2000ohm and rated at a few hundred W down to maybe 50W. Duty cycle would have been ECU controlled but there is potential for it to burn out if there was a control issue. It may be possible to operate the fast charge chademo contactor directly via 12V on D25 and ...

Re: Expressions of Interest - Electric buses for sale!
Just considering the worst case scenario here. Most vehicles can end up with a special licence in Australia if they were able to be licensed in other countries. The process may cost many thousands of dollars to work through. It may be though that the special licence will exclude them from public use...

I spoke to him on phone and he realises the inverter may be faulty and require replacement. Rockingham is out of my area. Usual st...
