Re: Has Anyone Swapped Out The Nexen Tyres on Kona?

We ended up getting the Bridgestone Ecopia tyres. We changed them at 39,000 km. The Nexens were not yet worn out completely, but there was uneven wear on the front ones. Hyundai had replaced our motor, and they had to do a road-worthiness check afterwards. It failed the check because of the tyres, ...

Re: Charging type 2 car from Type 1 portable charger

My Kona can be set at ... 32A,24A,16A or 15A,11.25A,7.5 A. 100%,75% or 50 % of what the EVSE says. I think most Hyundais are the same. Yes, we have a Kona, so I was going by that experience. We are just about to buy a Volvo, so I looked it up. Yes, the Volvo lets you change the charging rate, with ...

Re: Charging type 2 car from Type 1 portable charger

I tried the charger on my 3kw inverter today and it was showing 15 amps going into the car. That is a bit high, as the inverter would be slightly overloaded at that rate. If I change the resistor to a 1.5k ohm one will that work or will the PWM chip in the charger have a problem with that? You can'...

Many cars will let you change the charging current via the onboard menus, although not necessarily in a fine-grained way.

Hey guys, for some reason I can't seem to access the EV Fact Sheets anymore. When I try to access any fact sheet, first it asks me to "Log In to the AEVA Site to access exclusive content" with my AEVA Member account, then I get the following error. Thanks for bringing this to our attentio...

Re: ‘Hay sheds’ that pay off

Around here, either the big round bales are plastic wrapped and stay in the paddock, or piled in rows and plastic wrapped waiting to be transported somewhere, or the rectangular bales are stacked and wrapped waiting for transport, none under hay sheds as such. Sounds like silage. Wrapped green, it ...

I've just checked, and willwebster still can't post in the WA forum.
Could this be to do with their membership type? They are a Business/Organisation member in the membership database, could it be that the code doesn't look for this membership type?

Meanwhile we are checking out the chargers available in rural / remote Tassie. The Tassie Electric Highway would allow me to drive a Leaf all over the place. I've seen chargers in use but no sign of a queue. Speaking as an employee of Electric Highway Tasmania, we hope you're having a good holiday!...

Re: Trouble Identifying the temp probe in these EV modules

Hang on, I've just re-read this bit: I'm reasonably confident that a TC is connected to pins 5 & 11. The resistance is ~ 100 - 120k ohms and I get an identical result for pins 1 & 8. The module temp would be about 22oC which should correspond to about 0.8 mV if its a K-type TC, but my cheap ...

should correspond to about 0.8 mV if its a K-type TC, but my cheap but genuine Fluke (set to mV range) goes to 0.0mV. Does anyone have any knowledge about the typical thermocouple type used in modules like this? or a better way of testing to confirm what I have? Unfortunately the module isn't made ...

You wrote "I thought that if the gate was the same voltage as the drain the device should be solidly off". I think you meant to write "if the gate was the same voltage as the source the device should be solidly off. That's true. The trouble is, with the circuit you have, when you try...

Don't do it. Keep the optocouplers. See https://forums.aeva.asn.au/viewtopic.php?p=48333#p48333 Ok, you've convinced me. Testing under large and varying loads would be difficult, so I'll go with what I know from experience works. I'd still like to know what is going on with my MOSFET experiment tho...

Re: Low cost BMS

I'm making yet another version of this BMS, this one to suit ex-Hyundai car battery modules. In this version I'm intending on putting six cell module boards onto one PCB. In all previous versions the boards have talked to each other through optocouplers, but with six on one board, and a known voltag...

Exiting our roundabouts would involve using the ‘right’ button to indicate the left turn…… Huh? I don't understand - why would the right button indicate a left turn? We went from an Outlander, which has the regen paddles on each side of the steering column, to a Kona, which has similar paddles but ...

I don't think the Kona is available in your timeframe, unless you get a secondhand one. Our 2019 model has a terrible ground clearance. It's the lowest car I've ever owned. It currently has no plastic covers underneath, waiting for repairs after hitting a wallaby. And as you say, the boot is really ...

Do the pouches appear to have swelled at all? How do you keep them compressed to stop the pressure build up causing the pouch to expand rather than putting the electrolyte under pressure to stop the lighter elements from separating? Page 11 of this thread shows how I have compressed them. Plates to...

Re: 4Springs' Brumby

I'm wondering if there is a resistance developing between the pouch tabs and the connecting plates that is generating heat and passing that back into the pouches causing the electrolyte to separate the way the LFP prismatic cells do. When the Alminox paste finally dries out on the contact faces bet...

Here we are again, more leaking cells. Previously: In 2019 I bought some LG63 cells from francisco.shi to replace the LFP cells in the Brumby. I made them into battery modules with the help of some AEVA friends, and got it on the road again in March 2020. After a couple of drives I found that many o...

Re: Francisco's Electric Pajero

The springs will keep the screws from moving. It is like two spring washers except it takes about 5mm of unscrewing before they become loose. I doubt there will be that much vibration there to make them move. I used Francisco's springs for the cells in my car. I also used a spring (split) washer un...

Changing the oil probably isn't all that important, it's not the oil that is the problem. Take a thimble-full sample and check for metal filings.
