Re: isolation monitoring

Hi Joe - I've used the Bender IR125 unit before with great success. The uni FSAE EV race teams must also include a ground-fault detection system and primarily use Bender units. Your local AEVA branch should have contacts with the local uni team to get info on them.

Re: Unable to repair my Electron V

Hi Chris - the problem with Blades is they are, well, not worth fixing unless you are a do-it-yourself sort of person. The cost to pay someone to do it is usually well more than they are worth when finished as they are all different and generally have unique problems built into them. (Plus paying ot...

Re: Unable to repair my Electron V

Hi Chris - I suspect most EV conversion workshops have something close to PTSD re Blades. If you treat it as a glider and install a new motor with the controller along with put in your choice of battery monitor, BMS and charge plug (BTW: a Curtis motor and controller costs about the same as just fin...

Re: Unable to repair my Electron V

Thank you for the reply. I find it hard to comprehend why an AZD controller can not be repaired! Why can't an electronics repairer diagnose a faulty component and replace it? The controller still drives the car! It can't be completely burnt out. Looks like EVs are not ready for the general populati...

Re: Unable to repair my Electron V

Hi there Chris - sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the AZD controllers are effectively impossible to repair. If the controller is dead, the only solution is to replace the controller with one compatible with the motor. (Preferable one with a manufacturer still in existence and who provides goo...

Sigh. And how many times has Microsoft 'updated' Word or Windows with features that nobody wanted (or uses) and in the process moved or deleted useful functions? Hi there - my t'uppence worth is it all sounds a bit odd! Firstly, For Sale section is a public forum. You should still see it, even if you can't edit an ad. Secondly, if your AEVA membership has lapsed, that should not affect the forums login - that is a separate login and there are lots of forum m...

Hi Russell-is it perhaps taking the 'shortest' route? My Kona has a bad habit of doing that. Particularly on long freeway trips. (The old road may be shorter than the freeway bypass-but it certainly ain't quicker... ).

Hi there-whilst technically possible to do CHAdeMO charging in a conversion (see last ever EVNews - Oct 2020 - for an article from someone who did get it to work), I think the take-home message from the article is 'don't try this at home'.

Ditto on the 'some sort of life'. Sometimes if they are not too low or left for too long you can sometimes gently resuscitate them individually with a controlled current/voltage power supply to a high enough level to get the BMS to cooperate.... However the range is often well down on what a new bat...

Re: Audi forum reorganisation

Perhaps not the best arrangement - yes, Audi, Porsche, Skoda etc are part of the VW group - but it is not widely understood by the general public that this is the case. Suggest keeping them as separate marques. Either that, or put Nissan, Mitsubishi and Renault under a category called 'Renault Group...

Yes - with ZE50 Zoe, Renault introduced CCS2 DC charging as an option. (Plus created the R135 GT Line 'performance' Zoe. That ad is for one of those :-) )

BTW: the ones I sell stick like the proverbial to a blanket. My old EV set are still perfect after 8 years. However, they do have the alternate problem that you MUST put them on in the right spot first time. (Have tried - they never come off in one piece!)

And then there were none. All the Zoe run-out listings are gone on Carsales and Gumtree.

Just one lonely new Kangoo EV van in Tasmania to represent Renault EVs in Australia. A sad situation, given how well Renault EVs sell in Europe...

E-niro is basically a slightly bigger Kona-(same running gear and battery: Kia is owned by Hyundai) so if you liked the Kona but found it a bit small, the e-niro is possibly your perfect EV!

You can buy an 'adaptor'-involves a Type 2 socket in a control box with a lead ... effectively an eo or similar 'BYO' lead EVSE. (See evse.com.au as an example). I built just that type of thing for myself some time ago when such things were not available - but easier (and cheaper) to buy a portable ...

As FYIs: the coming Nissan Ariya has liquid battery cooling .... and even the e-NV200 van (base on the Leaf) has had an active air system cooling system since 2014. Leaf has been the standout for not including either.

Re: Single phase charging

Hi there - seems to be an issue with Zoes and some EVSEs. (Had the same happen with ours on my wall EVSE - the Zoe randomly stops charging. A reset of the EVSE off/on again sets it right again). Am in the process of swapping the EVSE over to another. Will report back once that's done.
