Outlander phev remote aircon

Post by brendon_m »

I bought an outlander and was very unimpressed with the remote heating and cooling function. Its way too hard to change with a varying schedule.
I did a little research and found a hack for the remote fob and I thought I should document it here.

If you pry the remote apart and look at the board there are spots for some extra features/switches.
There is a spot for a panic button (labeled SW6) below the lock, unlock and boot buttons.
Then on the sides there are 2 more spots on the sides, one for disabling the charger timer which makes the car charge straight away rather than waiting for the timer to say it's time to charge. (labeled SW4)
And the last one activates the aircon (or heater or defroster) for 10 min (labeled SW3)

You have to double press the contacts in quick succession to get each function to operate

I bought a remote fob case that has an extra button to what the original has. I couldn't find them with a button on the side so the case I got has the panic button spot.

I cut the track going to the switch location for the panic button (SW6)

I ordered a pack of assorted switches from China.
I chose the closest type of switch soldered it on the board with a wire coming off it

I also ground a notch in the side of the board and then ran the wire around to the a/c switch spot(SW3)

Half way through doing this I noticed that TP5 is linked to the a/c switch and I didn't need to run the wire all the way round to the other side of the board.

Also I had to use the red rubber membrane from the original fob as the one that came with the Chinese case made the switches come on when the case was put together.

I might try to add another switch on the side for the charge disable because that sounds like a handy feature as well.
