Spares from other Mitsubishis?

Post by bmscott »

I need to replace the passenger-side outer mirror on my iMiev - a pricey part, unless I can find one from a junkyard, and there are few-to-no iMievs in junkyards...

I seem to recall that some body parts were the same as on other Mitsubishi models such as the Mirage. How can I confirm this? I did some Googling but the results were inconclusive.

If I can find the right year of - say, Mitsubishi Mirage - in a junkyard and pull the mirror, it could save me about $400!

I thought the I-MiEV was supposed to be based on the Colt.

The iCar is even smaller than the colt. The iMiev wasn't built as an EV originally - it was ICE powered. The iMiev is an iCar with the powerplant replaced.

I would look for Icar parts as its the same car just a ICE version.

"I thought the I-MiEV was supposed to be based on the Colt."

Completly different the colt is a FWD car Imiev and Icar are RWD rear engine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_i

The Icar (i think started production in 2006 ish. lent it's self so well to being adapted to a Ev and renamed the Imiev. Very little was actually changed to accommodate the electric conversion in comparison to many other production EV's

The I car already had a large hump in the floor pan to accommodate the fuel tank under the front seats. Steering was already electric assist and the rear engine package put all of the drive line components together as package at the rear leaving a uninterrupted floor pan.

They just bent up a tube frame to hold the electric motor/reduction drive and used the same rear engine bay. Looking at my Imiev I can see the original petrol engine mounting points that have simply been blanked off with a bolt on plate (wouldn't supersize me at all if you could refit the old 600cc turbo engine back in without any modification.

Imiev engine bay (you can see left hand side above the plastic coolant tank is the old Ice motor mount they didn't even remove it for the Imiev)

Good point. My apologies for the misinformation.
